Anybody have a clue how I can get XPF to install? Power Wave Sonnet Crescendo G4 card Adaptec Ultra Wide SCSI 2940U2W Seagate 18gb (empty) HD as target for OS-X 208mb RAM (Virtual turned on) I have an Adaptec SCSI card to which I have attached a completely blank 18gb Ultra Wide hard drive. I want to install OS-X on that device. The computer is a well behaved Power Computing Power Wave clone with a Sonnet Crescendo G4 card, now running OS 9.1 When I try to run XPF installer, it won't copy all the files to the 18gb drive. It produces a disk error message. I've wiped and re-wiped the drive, but because it's Ultra Wide it won't mount without the SCSI card. Any advice would be appreciated. I am new to this forum |

You don't need to partition for SCSI, despite how many times people restate this incorrect info. Also the 2940U2W does NOT work for booting under OSX on old world macs. The 29160N does, Or the ATTO Express PCI PSC does, Or the ATTO Ul2D does... The Adapted 2940U2B doesn't boot either... The 2940U2W that I have played with did show up and allow access to Ultra 2 Wide drives under OSX, but would never boot. It sort of delayed for a couple of seconds and startup with a black screen and then booted back to 9. Marty |

It is questionable whether or not the Adaptec 2940U2W is compatible. I think they were supposed to be in the earlier versions of OSX but that may have changed with Jaguar. The 8GB limit does not apply to SCSI drives, although it does not hurt. I'd try removing the card for the install. Connect the drive to the logic boards external SCSI bus connector, if it has one, and see if that produces the same error. |

Partition, partition, partition. OS X must reside in a the first partition and that partition must be no larger than 8G. To be safe I usually make that partition 7.75G. It will not install if the drive or partition is larger than this. |
