Hi Can I use X Postfacto to install Mac OS X on a PowerMac 7500/Sonnet G3/400 equipped with a non Mac internal CD drive (Panasonic)? If I cannot, what is the workaround? Thanks Laurier |

I had this same problem with trying to install OSX onto my Power Tower Pro with a PowerLogix G4/450. I got to the "waiting for Root device" message. After several attempts, I gave up for now. Any one else experience this? |

I am overwhelmed with the number of replies. I intend to install Mac OS x 10.2.4 and to update it to 10.2.6. Am I right to conclude that my chances of success are quite good? Thanks again. |

Oh, I see. I can't boot in OS 9 with my Yamaha, just in case. |

Some CD-ROM's work, some don't--I don't have a precise list. It also depends on which version of Mac OS X--later versions support more CD models. |

yep, I would turnm on verbose mode just in case (it makes text scroll up your screen for the boot) and if it ends in waiting for Root device then you cannot use the CDROM so try teh Apple Software Restore. |

Thanks for your replies. This CD drive currently boots in OS 9 with no problem at all. Does it mean it will install OS X with XPostFacto? Thanks |

Hmmm... to actually boot from CD, you're right. But I did install OS X in my 9600 with my non-Apple Yamaha external CD-RW, it worked fine. I believe it worth a try. |

it has to have apple ROM, if it does not it will not boot, i think any CDROM that will boot OS9 will boot X. If you can't you have to use Apple Software Restore (its in your drive somewhere) and restore the CD contence to a Bootable drive partition (not the same partition as you are going to install to). |

I guess you can. At least, I installed OS X 10.2 on my 9600 with an external SCSI Yamaha CD-RW drive. |
