I am completely stuck after three days of trying to install OS 10.2 over OS 9.1 I got past the install process (finally) but when I go to boot from xpostfacto I get a couple of screens full of code and it finally hangs up at: /etc/rc: Line 247: Hangup systemStarter -g${VerboseFlag} ${SafeBoot} any ideas? I have removed everything from the system, all cards, all software and extensions..... my scsi and cd are properly terminated. I am a Zen Buddhist priest and serve as a death row chaplain so I am not a Mac expert by a long shot. Can anyone help? |

"the first and last SCSI devices are both terminated. " This could be the trouble as I think, Only the last device should be terminated. But it sounds like your install is corrupt as "/etc/rc: Line 247: Hangup systemStarter -g${VerboseFlag} ${SafeBoot}" is a message you get before Quartz starts. Is it hung or can you type anything? |

Only your last physical device needs to be terminated. Your "first" device is the computer and it's already terminated. |

That's it? That's all the help we can get? |

I have no video card, just the motherboard one. I am left staring at the verbose mode with a little white block at the end. Startup Complete /etc/rc: Line 247 98Hangup Systemstarter -g{VerboseFlag} ${SafeBoot} followed by the little white cursor box on the next line. It sits there for hours so it isn't like it did not have chance to time-out. I have a CD rom 24X SCSI that came with the machine and a 100Meg zip drive also SCSI that came with the machine. The hard drive is a Quantum fireball ST 4Gig that came with..... the first and last SCSI devices are both terminated. |

Can you provide any addition hardware info?? How many drives (and where they are plugged in), what the video card is, if you have one, etc?? That would be helpful if you could post. I realise you are not an "expert" as you say, but any additional info could help. |

Hmm. It sounds as though it might be a video-related issue of some kind. At least, I believe that the video should change modes at about that point. But if you are using the onboard video (i.e. no video card) it's hard to say why it should stop at that point. When it does stop, are you left staring at the messages in verbose mode? Or does the monitor try to change video modes, leaving you with a grey screen or a blue screen? |
