Once you have psync in and open ccc, you will have the option to synch disks availible, right on the ccc gui, couldn't be easier..... |

Cool, I do use CCC. So, next time I Clone I'll check PS out. Now if I could only CCC my bank accout a few time I could get a G5 and a PBG4. Speeking of bank's(HIjack) why is it when you overdraft they charge you,but when they make a mistake you only get your $ back and not the $30 they charge you. |

Since I maintain several machines that are either not on the internet or have really sloooow connections I use the feature in software Update "Download Checked Items to Desktop" under the Update menu and I store them on a large drive so in an emergency or just the need to update an unconnected machine I have them. I also do the same with the Update Combo's too. Just a thought Jim |

I know, that is why I LOVE PSynch, just updates the changed files to the target drive when using CCcloner. Saves a ton of time. Hard drive space is indeed the premium, so no argument there. My philosophy is that all this old world stuff is in the category of "experimental", and though I use my my 9500 heavily for multimedia stuff, it is still part hobby, and because of that the entire disk gets backed up. I got a full size refurb seagate 47 gig elite drive for 15 bucks. Slow and only used for backup on the external bus, but I got it for strictly backup, and to boot other machines into jag via XPF without any risk. Since I upgrade beige's for people as a side-line, I don't like to take chances with their stuff, so I figure the time I spend in synching up my disks as well as theirs, is well worth it, and for me it really doesn't take too long. As you said, we all have our ways, and there is certainly no one correct way to do any of this. I still get my ya-ya's off knowing that I have jag running well on a machine close to 8 years old (pm9500). Gotta love that. |

I'd bet that the Installer makes a backup file and there is a way to revert. But then Apple would be hard pressed to let us know how to revert. Kind of like saying "Here is an update, if it works, great, injoy. If not use this. We don't test this stuff or care if it's broken.we only sell it." This is UNIX there is always a way! |

Sure, how or what each of us does with our own computer is our choice. Some backup solutions work better for some. I just don't think Apple would like OS X to be "Oh my god, there is another update. I need to backup 4-40 gigs of my OS so I can install it." type of OS. Don't get me wrong your right to backup everything, but time and harddrive space comes in to play. |

Sure ,we back-up. We backup our DATA not the OS this is MAC not Windows. I'm not going to clone my boot drive every time I update my OS. If an update brakes things with itself, hardware or other Apps. I don't loose anything. |

I like the Cocktail utility, combine that with CCcloner running with PSynch, and there is your solution, once you get it back. Here is my way of backing things up.....my entire jag disk, with apps comes in at ~4 gigs, so not only do I have a bootable backup, I burned a DVD image just to be paranoid. Restore your system and follow the advice of others...BACKUP the piss out of it. |

Here is are some suggestions I have run across at Macfixit.com: Download Cocktail and run ALL of the tasks listed under the "Pilot" button. This will include repairing permissions. Restart your computer. You have to restart your computer at least twice after the update to gain full speed access. This might improve the speed of 10.2.8. By the way, let us know if it helps. This update also breaks using an iMic according to some, and some ethernet functionality in some computers. For ethernet, another fix that might help is to use cocktail again. Hit the Network button on the main menu. Go to the DHCP tab. Hit renew DHCP lease. Macfixit has complete instructions for downgrading specific files in 10.2.8 that might help correct specific problems. I am running 10.2.8 on a 400 Sawtooth at work, with no problems so far (proverbial knock on wood). The legacy Mac at home remains at 10.2.6, awaiting Apple fixes to 10.2.8. Good luck |

I made a copy of my entire OSX disk to a test partition and applied the 10.2.8 update. Since I didn't like it, I just reboot with my original OSX partiton. |

Don't you guys back-up? You should do a full back-up before installing any major software. Then if there is a problem you can just restore the whole system exactly as it was. I reckon anyone who doesn't back-up these days is just plain crazy. Especially when running software like we are on old systems when it is not officially supported. |

I ran that bbs server on a G4(agp) that like a fool I installed .8 on. Slowed the GUI down and now I get tearing when I move windows. I hate it. I should have known better than to run an update before it had been out a few weeks. Only thing you can do is archive and install from your 10.2.x cd. and reinstall 100mb of Apple updates back to 10.2.6 |
