If I go into system profiler and go to devices and volumes under USB information. "No usb devices found". I have a 9600 G4/800 with a Sonnet trio card. I have a 5470c scanjet and a usb mouse plugged into the ports. The mouse works fine but I'm not sure about the scanner. I'm I suppose to see these devices in the system profiler? |

In OS X on Mac's without built-in USB device's won't show up in ASP. This is real anoying but normal. In OS 9 the USB drivers and ASP work as they should and device's are probed and handed off to ASP, but under OS X things work differnt. It is possable to fix this ,but I don't remember how. It's a bug that Apple will not likely fix as 10.3 will not be "supported" on any no-usb mac's. You can probe for devices on the USB bus from the terminal:ioreg. Or with Dev-tool IOprobe.app. They work, they are on the device tree, but because there is no package-usb@ in the Firmware it does not get handed to the Kernel in the way that is needed. I wish some one had ever made a USB card with FCODE driver for OF, but Apple put out "usb card support" so no Co. had any need too. At that time it worked with ASP. Just one of those little things that add up to, if you want it buy a new mac. Funny how that is, thanks Apple. |
