I remember back sopmetime there was a few posts on what version of firmware would work the best with this paticular card. I cant seem to find it. I've got 1.44 and 1.5 and you can download the news one off of thier site which is 1.6.4. I'm wanting to put this in a 9600 G4/800, have a sonnet trio card and I updated it to the latest rev but when I install it the system will no boot |

Gang, I've got the original Apple OEM UL2D running firmware 1.43f (1.44 equivalent) and I can boot into both 9.1, where all my legacy apps are located, and 10.2.8. Each OS version are on separate drives on the UL2D internal chain. Hope this helps. --Dwight |

The combination of ATTO UL2D and a Sonnet Trio is almost a no go. I messed with this combination about 6 months ago. If I remember correctly finally got these 2 cards to boot but only when using the built in video of a 7500 or 8500. I could never get it to work with a 9600 when I added a Radeon 7000. The problems has to do with open firmware. Apparently these cards use compression to load into OF but because of a bug in old world macs if more than one card attempts to use compression you get an error in OF. I settled for IDE alone with Sonnet Tempo and left out SCSI. Hope someday someone can figure out a solution for this in OF. To your question of firmware for UL2D, stay with 1.44 or 1.5. If you use 1.6 it causes problems in OS 9. Ed |

yes, but sometimes you end up back into OS 9, if its there at all (needed for XPF even). Using later firmware assumes you've done the OEM -> retail fix. I ran into trouble with Radon 7000, ACard and ATTO. Had to pull the Radeon (not enough boot RAM I suspect) in order to boot into OS 9. Pulled the Acard also and decided to use native IDE, slower but good enough (and the new ATA drives feel faster). The mnix of Sonnet Trio + G4/800 (Radeon?) can push the limits on how many Open Firmware cards can be used. OS X once installed is more forgiviing. As long as I never changed anything, I was "safe" in OS X and wish I'd never messed further with the hardware. I thnk the Adaptec 29160 (or Miles2?) might be easier to cope with. |

1.5 is the newer version that allows to boot both from os9 and osX. if you dont't need os9 or classic anymore, then you can also use the most recent firmware. |
