Monitor Falls Asleep |

During the installation of OS 10.0.3, approximately 19MB's into the process, my monitor goes into standby mode or sleep mode. I set the Energy Saver Control Panel to "never", but the same event takes place. My computer is a Sonnet upgrade G3/500 installed in a PM 7300/200 running 896MB's of RAM. The HD where the OS X is being installed has been reformatted, and the first partition where OS X is eventually going to be installed, is 4.5GBs. I have 2 PCI cards, one for USB where only a USB mouse is connected, and an ME ATI 7000 Video Card. Connected to this video card is a Samsung LCD monitor via the DVI-D connector. Has anyone seen this particular problem during their experiences with installing OS X? |

Thanks Jseibyl for your help. I think we've configured a logical plan of attack. Again, thanks! |

If you still have the on-board vram in your 7300, that will work. Most older ATI cards should work, but not sure about the Orion, I think some people here have had success with them. Just for getting in X, on-board will work until you can bring it up to 10.1 |

After re-reading the "How to" install OS X using XPF, what I am seeing taking place is exactly what it should be doing. I start off booted into OS 9, open XPF, insert OS X CD, then set up the location where I want it to be installed. Then click "start". Several of the needed items such as BootX are in fact being installed on the target HD just before the computer is forced to reboot, which should then boot into OS X to complete the installation. This is where I get the black screen with the monitor indicating it is in sleep mode. I've waited up to 15 minutes for it to come back on, but it never did. I think your right about the ME 7000 now that I have re-read the install info. The computer is now using OS X at this point, which means no support is given to the monitor. Are earlier ATI cards supported such as the 16 MB Orion? Or will I hve to hook up my old monitor to the Apple video card which the computer came with, and start again? |

from the ati site.....the earliest driver they post... This driver is designed for use with Mac OS X version 10.1 or 10.1.2. This driver is NOT supported under earlier versions of Mac OS X. This is just to confirm what was posted here, I know this is talking about the driver, but it appears the difference between 10 and 10.1 is significant enough to hose the radeon below 10.1...... |

I don't think you will will be able to run your instal on that Radeon card. lyonsdj88 is correct, you need at least 10.1. Can you run from the onboard video until you get to 10.1? What should be happening is when you run the X install, you are actually booting X from the CD, so I am not sure what you mean by "running from 9".... The monitor is not really going to sleep, rather X is initialisng the vid drivers and because the radeon is not supported below 10.1, it is just not showing up. |

I'm trying to install OS X while booted into OS 9.2.2. 9.2.2 is where I'm setting the Energy Saver to never. I'm aware of the lack of support in anything less than OS 10.1. My goal is to eventually install up to 10.1.5 before actually booting into OS X to use. Figured OS X wouldn't effect the ME 7000 by doing it this way. Is there a better way to install OS X using XPF? |

BTW I think OS 10.1 is needed for Radeon 7000. |

Move the mouse every once and a while. Setting the Energy Saver in 9 will not change anything in OS X. Is the monitor not waking up? Are you unable to install? or are you saying that you have OS X installed and you set the Energy Saver in X and your monitor still goes to sleep? |
