Internet Connect problem, help? |

Have a very annoying problem with my dial-up modem. Whenever I log into OSX 10.2.6 the Internet Connect telephone icon shows that the the printer port is selected. I have to manually change it to modem port but after I disconect it was to re-connect again, again, etc. Even with the model turned off. It's my hunch that the modem prefs or internet connect prefs are corrupt. Does anyone know how I can remove just these prefs without messing with the system too much? I don't want to reinstall OSX unless absolutely necessary. I ran the 10.2.8 updater tonight and it has no effect on this problem. Please help Keith |

Thanks for all your help. I was able to change the "Network Port Configurations" and to my surprise "Printer" "Built-in Ethernet" was also selected along with the "Modem". Well, I unchecked the other two and everything is working fine, no more annoying re-dialing. Thanks once again, Keith |

Go to the Network preference pane in System Preferences. Select "Network". Then from the "Show:" picklist, select Network Port Configurations. Uncheck the box labeled "Printer Port" and you're in business. Internet Config looks at all PPP-capable ports that are enabled and selects the one that is first alphabetically. |

After /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Network.prefPane is open I make sure that under Location I have selected automatic and where it says show I have selected Network Port Configurations. I can then drag the Modem Port with a check next to it above the Printer Port with a check next to it ... sometimes it takes two or three times to work but eventually you'll be able to drag the Port Configuration where you want it. I've never had to lock it but I guess you could if this continues to annoy you. |

Make sure in Network preferences that only one port is enabled. |
