Hi, I have a PM9600 with a PowerLogix G3/400 card, 640meg of ram, a 4gig Apple SCSI hd, and a 9.1Gig Ultra160/LVD/SE hooked to a ATTO ExpressPCI card, I also have a cheap ATI with TV out, and a Asante 10/100 network card. I have Mac 0S 9.1 install on the machine, except I am a little lost as to how I am to install XpostFacto 2.2.5 and OS X.1 :) onto it. I booted from the 4gig which has my OS 9.1 installed on it, then inserted my 10.1 CD, then ran XpostFacto 2.2.5 and ran the Apple Startup control panel before choosing my 9.1gig hard drive and clicking install. I notice under OS 9.1 that you have the option to restart with the startup disk control panel. Do I have do that that too? Anyhow when the machine reboots it loads back up into my Mac OS 9.1, and I can't figure out what to do from there, so I am open to ideas? Regards, Andrew |

To be more precise, this is word from word from Ryan's instructions: Then take a deep breath, and follow the following procedure: Insert the Mac OS X Install CD (or Darwin, or Mac OS X Server, as the case may be) Launch XPostFacto Select the Install CD as the volume to start up from Select the target volume that you want to install Mac OS X to Click on the "Install" button Sit back and watch the action It is always a good idea to read Ryan's main page which explaines the hardware requirements, things to lookout for, and how to install. It is amazing how many people do not read this main page. It is located when you press the XPostFacto button on the main forum page. It answers many basic questions. |

Do not have to upgrade to 9.2.2 yet. Your system will work fine with 9.1 for now. Upon opening XPF 2.2.5 you have two choices to make: the target drive - the drive that OS X will be installed to. This must be formatted in HFS+ using the 9.1 Drive Setup Utility. the source drive - the CD drive with the OS X install disc Once these are selected, then click the install button. Do not use the startup disk control panel. It is not necessary. It may also be a good idea to go to the Open Firmware menu and select keyboard as your input device and your video card as the output device. Good Luck Ed |

The 9600 is not "Officially" supported under OS 9.2.2 but it does run without any problems. You will need to use OS9 helper and follow their instructions closely but it is worth the time and effort. No, you don't use the startup disk control panel to reboot the machine. The reboot should be handled by XPost. Scott |

ATTO has a configuration driver for OS X for thier ExpressPCI cards, otherwise the latest firmware driver I have installed already. I will try the OS 9.2.2 update though from what I have seen on Apple's support site the 9600 only supports upto 9.1 not 9.2.2. -Andrew |

Couple of things... First, definitely update OS 9.1 to 9.2.2. See http://www.os9forever.com for an easy utility (os9helper) to update to the latest and greatest OS 9 version. Second, are you sure you have the latest firmware for the ATTO card that will allow you to use it in OS X? I know my Initio Miles required an upgrade before OS X would see it. I'm not sure about the ATTO card, but atleast it is a place to start looking. -Kirk |
