I installed a new 40 GB drive in my powerbook today and installed OSx 10.1 successfully. I originally had problems installing on the stock 3GB drive that originally shipped with the machine. I am wondering about PCMCIA support specifically relating to an Orinoco wireless card. I can use the card under OS9.1 however when I am in OSX it is not found. I am not able to use software update at all, as it indicates that my software is up to date. OSX 10.1 Is there a good way to search in this forum? Or one that is being planned? |

I suppose there is some chance that 10.2 will help--it depends on whether the PC Card drivers have been fixed. It isn't clear to me yet whether the problem with PC Cards is a "general" bug in Mac OS X, or is specifically related to the unsupported hardware. I hope to look into this soon. |

Hello, I also have a PB2400 and using OS X 10.1.3. The wireless PCMCIA card(REUDO RE-3000) causes karnel panic(I have not checked very details of the error, yet). I am expecting to use it sometime... Anyway, would there be any possibility that OS X 10.2 would chage the situation ? |

As ivanxqz says, it is something that is high on my list of things to look into, after version 2.2 of XPostFacto seems fine for Jaguar. We are planning to get a search function going for the forum--thanks for the nudge! |

Hello, I have a PowerBook 2400 which is not too architecturally different from your machine. I have not been able to get ANY 16- bit PC cards to work -- and all 802.11b cards are 16-bit. Besides that, the only OS X driver that I know of that exists for wireless cards is WirelessDriver (http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net), and that causes a kernel panic at startup (whether or not that is because of the 16-bit issue is unknown). I believe Ryan is working on getting 16-bit cards to work but even then there might still be problems with the wireless driver. So, basically, I don't think it'll happen, but if you are able to please share. The only wireless solution that MIGHT work is an 802.11a solution, because the cards seem to be Cardbus (32-bit) cards, so they would work with XPF on a 2400/3400/G3. However, they would be dependent on the vendor having OS X software...which I think could be a possibility. I have not looked into it. Of course, to use these cards, the machine would have to be Cardbus- enabled, which either involves risky do-it-yourself work, or will cost you $100 from MCE (http://www.powerbook1.com). |
