Version 2.2 of XPostFacto is out. Since it solves a variety of problems with Jaguar, this seemed like an appropriate moment to declare the beta-period over. I had originally been hoping to have better powerbook support before finishing version 2.2, but the Jaguar work interrupted that a little. There's still lots of work to do--take a look at my log entry for a quick list. |

No problem Ryan, I'm just glad I found out so I can quit making a fool of myself. I've been telling people to put the packages in the folder with XPF to make sure they get installed. Some how I got the idea that was the thing to do ;-) |

Sorry for missing your question, Will. The kernel extensions which XPostFacto installs are included in XPostFacto itself (they are in the resource fork). As you say, I used to include a separate package for installing them in Mac OS X (without requiring you to reboot into Mac OS 9 to run XPostFacto again). But now XPostFacto will run in Mac OS X and can install the extensions from there (that is actually the only thing that works when running in Mac OS X at this time--I want to make it fully functional eventually). The reason I went away from the separate package file was mostly for the sake of simplicity (just distributing the application itself, plus documentation), but also because the Jaguar development tools have changed the way that packages are constructed, and I couldn't get them to work the way they used to. (I'm sure I could have figured that out eventually, but given that I had an alternative in mind, I just gave up). |

Ok, I just re-read the XPF info and perhps XPF has always been self contained and the .pkg included was for installing new .pkgs in OSX. This was far from clear to me and the first time I realized that was perhaps the case. Maybe I'm dense but can I be the only confused one on this issue.... |

Up to and including XPF beta 16 the packages were included and seperate & needed to be in the same folder with XPF in order to be used. They were seperate from the XPF app in case the above is unclear. They were labeled " Old World Support .pkg I just checked and XPF 2.2 is 1.5 mb in size and XPF beta 16 is 1.6mb in size with the support packages a seperate but small 248kb package. So it seems they are now included in the XPF app itself? That was my question for Ryan which I have asked twice with no answer yet! myabe it is mentioned and I missed it on the XPF page somewhere. Is my question and reason for asking now clearer? |

Huh? Xpostfacto is completely self contained. It does not need to download anything. What do you mean by you are confused about what and how to use packages? Xpostfacto 2.2 is all you need. If you are installing OSX for the first time, you only need to boot in 9 and then start XPF and then tell where your install disk and target disks are.... If you mean as far as updating an existing install of OSX with XPF the new version has a neato option. Just double click the XPF icon from OSX and READ the dialog that appears as to how you can update your existing extensions. I hope this helps. I am not a new user, but you sure are confusing me!!! Good Luck, Marty |

Ryan thanks for finishing XPF 2.2 great work! I am a bit confused about what and how to use packages with it. Do I use the packages that came with beta 17 or does it download packages from the web etc. I asked about this with beta 17 but guess you were too busy to notice! New users might really be confused unless it does auto downlaod the packages somehow. Thanks Will S |
