Just wondering if XPF would boot/work okay with OS X on a SCSI RAID volume. Has anyone tried this, or do you know of it working? Thanks for your great work. |

I doubt that XPF will work to boot from a RAID. First off, to boot at all, Open Firmware needs to be able to read from the RAID. This would require that the SCSI RAID card have functioning Open Firmware drivers. It would also mean that XPF and Open Firmware would have to agree on the partition number etc. And XPostFacto needs to do raw SCSI writes to the partition map in order to set up the boot process, and I can think of a couple of reasons why that might not work well on a RAID. I'm not sure that it is entirely impossible, but I can think of a lot of obstacles to overcome. |
