I have a Umax scanner myself, but haven't tried to hook it up lately. I'll see if I can track down the bug in AppleCurio.kext that causes the multiple-IDs (assuming that I can reproduce it, but it sounds like I will be able to). If nothing at all is showing up on the external bus, the two possibilities are that AppleCurio is not loading at all, or that it is loading, but is having some kind of problem. The best way to diagnose these things is with the ioreg command in the terminal. (Or with the IORegistryExplorer application if you've installed the developer tools). Look for the 53c94 node (or something like that), and see if the CurioSCSIController class has loaded to match it. And then see whether the CurioSCSIController class has published any nubs underneath it. Let me know what you find--I may need to send you a debug version to help diagnose the problem. |

Jim, All I can suggest is to boot in verbose mode (hold down cmd-V at powerup) & see if you get any messages about the AppleCurio.kext . If this is not showing up in the output from kextstat then you have no driver loaded to handle the external SCSI bus. Nick. |

even with one device at a time there is no indication of life.. no indication of the second buss at all and yes the chain whether one or all three devices is properly terminated. |

blel: If you look at the top of the column in Apple System Profiler you'll see that "Not Available" is only referring to the "Get Info Text" which is just an identifying string which the developer of the extension may choose to include or not. Also, it's worth noting that ASP lists all the extensions contained in the / System/Library/Extensions folder whether or not they have loaded at boot time. You need to use the "kextstat" command I suggested in my first post on this thread to see if the AppleCurio.kext is actually in use. You can then use the "ioreg" command to see which if any SCSI ID's are being detected on the external bus. Try the following command which will limit the output just to the devices you're interested in : ioreg -c IOSCSIParallelDevice | grep SCSI As a general point, if people are having problems with multiple devices on the external bus it would be a good idea to connect them one at a time to see if its the bus itself or the individual device drivers which are screwed up. Make sure the bus is still properly terminated after devices are removed. |

blel: sounds like you may need an update for your scanner software. you seem to have your buss just not supported software or hardware |

I changed the scsi id from 6 to 4, and rebooted. Apple Profiler saw the Umax scanner, and so did ScanVue when it opened. But - When I clicked on Preview the scanner sputtered and stopped. Now Profiler shows the 8 devises on the bus again. Also, Profiler says that the AppleCurio. kext "is not available." If Applecurio.kext is the problem, how do we make it available? |

to blel: try changing the SCSI address on your scanner I have seen that (multipul id's) in previous OS's.......tho OSX is such a complete change...... can't hurt to try. other than these little bugs very pleased with 10.2 fixed far more problems than created new ones |

My external 5MB/s SCSI bus is working on my 8500 under 10.2. The ZIP and Yamaha CD-RW both work fine. |

I have the same problem on a 7600, and the AppleCurio...... is loaded. Apple System Profiler show that there are 8 scsi devices. I only have a Umax scanner hooked up. The VueScan forum has a note about this problem, but no recommendations. It appears that 10.2 has totally disabled our scsi bus (at the least the external one). 10.2 is causing more problems on these old machines than it is benefiting. Hopefully, there is an expert out there working on a scsi fix, similar to the PCI Extreme fix for ATI 7000. If there is, please hurry I need the scanner. Bob |

Nothing by that name is listed. In the chain I have a 9gig Hard drive, scanner and a CD burner which have been working just fine from 8.0 all the way through 10.1.5. Only after I loaded 10.2 did they disappear. (the scanner does not work in 10 but does in 9.1 never have tested to see if it works in 9.2, replacing it soon) |

Check that the kernel extension AppleCurio.kext is loaded - run terminal & use the command "kextstat" to list your loaded extensions. If it hasn't loaded then maybe the system didn't recognise your external scsi controller hardware during the boot sequence. What devices do you have on your external SCSI bus? Check that the last device in the chain is properly terminated. |

Are you running the released version of 10.2 (build 6C115)? Earlier developer builds had problems with external SCSI - the first version trashed all my external disks! Current version is ok on my 8600. |
