i am experiencing random freezes on my 9600 installation was a breeze though using XPost facto ----------------------------------------- my set up: OS 10.2 ATI radeon video card ATA Card + 2 x 40Gig drives 4Gig SCSI drive (contains OSX system) Belkin Firewire/USB card (USB seems to work i think?? ) Asante 10/100 ethernet adapter XLR8 G4 450MHz processor with (L2CacheConfig) ----------------------------------------- i think the random freezing occurs mostly when launcing or closing an apps. i've started up in single user mode a few times to repair the disk but only on the first occasion there was a problem that needed to be fixed. since then no errors have been found any ideas? thanks |

The most common generic cause for random freezes is memory trouble. Though, as jon1101 says, the 6-slot G4 upgrade problem can also cause this. For skramer: you could go back to XPF 2.2 and check the "Reinstall BootX" and "Reinstall Extensions" options in the "Advanced" menu. That would undo the changes made by version 2.2.1. It would interesting if that helps. |

I have a 9600 with the XLR8 G4/450. I would freeze randomly if any PCI card was in any of the lower three slots. I moved everything into the upper three and now it works perfectly. Before doing this I made sure that it was not the ram, scsi, or anything else. Moving PCI cards is the only thing that worked. Right now I am using OS 10.2 on a 9600 with the XLR8 G4/450 with an ATI XClaimVR128, USB card, and keyspan firewire card and everything works perfectly. -Jon |

Do you mean a stuttering behaviour? Or are you saying it locks up hard? I saw a stuttering behavior, when I first installed 10.2, but I think my problem was my L2Cache config... Reinstalling the newer version of L2cacheconfig fixed it for me... |

Ryan, also agree with this postng. Since installing 2.2.1 my system will freeze - if I'm trying to work in 2 programs. But most commonly if I am in an app and I close the window - it most definitely freezes. I don't remember this happening in 2.2 My config is Jaguar running with XPF 2.2.1 on a Kanga Powerbook 160 meg of ram and a 10 gig hd. |
