PowerBook G3 success story |

I have a PB G3 (colored apple). I had nothing to lose with this machine so I gave it a try. I made a fresh install of 9.2.1 on a new partition, leaving the first partition on the drive for OS X. When I started ExPostFacto 2.2.2, it did lots of copying, but then stopped with "Error writing NVRAM". I thought I was screwed, but when I tried to reboot with the 10.2 CD still in the drive, it came up fine, so I figured I'd try an install. What the heck. The install succeeded, the built-in ethernet works (to my surprise, because the notes seemed to imply it would not). And I upgraded to 10.2.1. So far, everything is exceeding my expectations! |

I haven't spent a lot of time with my Kanga lately--in general, I've got too much to do, as you've probably guessed. One of these days I will track this one down, though. |

Ryan, Although I love being able to use the kanga in Jaguar , is there any headway into getting the sound issues resolved (i.e. amplifying the speakers and getting the buttons to work to adjust the speakers and the monitor.) Again thanks for letting us use these great machines with Os X |

I also concurr in having success on my Kanga. However, I had to do the clean install with Jaguar instead of upgrading from 10.1 . Had to spend most of my weekend installing it and it works pretty good. Ethernet works great through the dongle - but to my surprise I was able to use a cardbus usb card with the Kanga !!!! I bought this machine a year ago and perhaps the previous owner had done the mce cardbus upgrade. dunno. But that has made this machine very usable as I have a Hp 5550 phot printer and an Iomega Predator drive hooked through Usb. Strangely, in Os 9 the card is not detected , there is some talk ( with other people including Ryan) that the pc card slots are cardbus but need some modification. Fyi I used a Macally Usb card and was able to insert it into the lower slot "after a lot of effort". Works great right now - unless you crash - then Jag doesn't see it until your reboot with the card removed. |

I have an original PB G3 (built-in ethernet only), and from the beginning I follow up every release of xpf : even today my powerbook is still unsupported and I cannot install Macos X, (nor X Server, nor Darwin), because of ethernet DEC chip, it has an usupported SROM format not recognized on kernel startup. I think it will be the last and only Mac who cannot run macosx! I'm very surprised and I can't figure how can you do a clean install, with a working ethernet... except I think you'd have the combo modem-ethernet model and not the ethernet one. isn't it ? macosclassic prisoner... |
