XPF doesn't start |

I had OS X successfully on this PB 2400. It's had a frozen cursor crash when I was shutting it down. When I restarted, OS X wouldn't boot. OS 9 wouldn't boot. I've re-formatted the HD (single volume as before) and re-installed everything. XPF gets as far as the grey apple screen with the spinning spikey dog collar under it. But it stops spinning and the PB shuts off before the Mac OS X Install appears. Any idea what is the matter? What's my next step? Thanks in advance! -- RS |

If you crash that way again, then the most useful thing is to start in verbose mode (with command-v held down at startup). This may get you some error messages, rather than just a crash or shutdown. The shutdown may indicate a problem with the PMU driver--it is something that should be fixed with recent versions of XPostFacto, but it may not be totally fixed :-) |

Is there a preferred course of action should it crash again while in OS X. Talk about "Lost Weekend" :-) |

XPF booted finally. "Preparing Installation" is under way and it takes forever. Is there anything that can be done to shorten up the time? I end up re-booting because it takes so long. |
