"Fatal Error" launching XPF 2.2.2 |

On both a beige G3, 7300, both were running 10.2.1. I booted into OS 9 to do something, and now I get this 'fatal error' message immediately on launching. Quits immediately. Yesterday I added ACard ATA/133 and booted right up, don't think I used XPF, but can't really remember at this point. Too many hours. The 7300 I got to boot. The Beige won't even let me zap PRAM. I've removed battery, hit cuda switch. At first I was able to boot from a CD, but I ran XPF, got the error, and that's the last. Can't even get to Open Firmware screen to reset. I think PRAM, nvram, OF, are corrupted. Next step I guess is to remove RAM and see. I'm at a loss after 8 hrs at this. Gregory |

If XPostFacto is giving you a "Fatal Error" at launch, then it is probably due to a bug of some kind in XPostFacto. Are you getting a window that says "XPostFacto Error" in the title bar? If so, then XPostFacto is generating that. If not, then it is probably Mac OS 9 complaining about something that XPostFacto is trying to do. Does the error message say anything more specific, or is it just "Fatal Error"? |

I take it no one has any ideas about this? Is it related to some pref or 10.2.1? I find that usually System Disk 3.3.1 is all I need to boot back into OS X and I sometimes also used Startup Disk 9.2.5 (comes with 10.2), not realizing that it "wiped out" what XPF did to the 7300 or Beige firmware. The 7300 is booting into OS X w/o using XPF, and the beige has a corrupt drive at this point. All my drives were formatted with Disk Utility 10.2/10.2.1, mostly SCSI or IDE on ACard PCI card, no problem with or a missing 'wrapper.' Disk Warrior did find damaged boot blocks, but then, that is not totally uncommon and happens even on my NewWorld B&W. Still, it would be nice to know where and when XPF triggers and displays "fatal error" - unless it isn't XPF but the OS 99.1) - still terrified of launching XPF again. Gregory |
