Greetings all... I can now report success on installing 10.1 (thanks Tony for the NVRAM solution!) which I was able to update to 10.1.5... so I am now **finally** on the learning curve. (Equip config: 9600 now with a G4/450 sse card; too mnay scsi drives; mac Edition Radeon PCI video card; Initio Miles U2W now used as a paperweight. :-( Now onto two major speed bumps: i) I have the 'original' Mac Radeon PCI video card that is hooked up to my LCD panel display using the DVI connector. When I try to boot with the DVI hooked up, it hangs. No video. Nada. If I switch monitors and connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port, it will boot... I would like to use the LCD panel in both 9.1 and 10.x. Any suggestions?? (Used a ixmicro ultrez pci video card and vga monitor for the 10.1 install. - works okay but need the VGA monitor for that, ahem, other platform box). ii) I could finally start installing by switching the drive onto the internal scsi bus (with a 68->50 pin stepdown connector) and yanking the Initio Miles U2W card. What is the secret of success with that card? (Other than buying an Atto/Apple card!). Many thanks in advance. |

If I remember correctly, Initio Miles may now have a firmware upgrade for that card. It would be worth checking, in any event. I'm not sure why the DVI connector on the Radeon won't work. I haven't tried is myself, but I thought I had seen reports that it did. Here's a couple of things you might try. First, I believe that ATI had a firmware update for the original Radeon Mac edition which might help. I don't have the URL handy anymore, but you may be able to find it on ATI's web site. Second, it's possible that the boot process is working, but that the video won't become active until fairly late. You should try waiting a while to see if that happens. If so, you might be able to fix it by setting the "output-device" in the Open Firmware menu of XPostFacto to point to the DVI output rather than the other one (assuming that there is a choice there). The choices may not be very intuitive, so you might have to use trial and error. |
