My umax J700 with a G4 400 and 408mb ram 120gb firewire hard drive is oddly sluggish. if i leave it on over night the next day it gets a little faster (probably because of unix's check it does in the middle of the night). but i added 128mgs of mem (was 280 now408) and its still just as sluggish. it is not as fast as it was. CPU is not overloaded (around 50% from proses viewer) and mem is fine to. its also about 35%. application i usualy use are: AOL(soon to be earthlink) Icab, itunes and Adium (Instant messageing thing. its smaller than aim and has tabbed windows). i dont know why its going so slow. this is not a compairison of X and 9 but in the time frame that i have had X installed. |

oops. it was 2M in 1/4 of the apps. |

well i checked a couple of places for make sure it was 2m. Metrenom (i don't know how to spell it' thats sonnets information aplication) said it was 1m. so i looked at the box it said 1m so i was in disbelief and checked powerlogix cach control, version 2.1b3 said 2M. version 2.1b4 said 1M. i am realy sorry about this little mix up. i was positive that it was 2M. I think that powerlogix cache control 1. something. said it was 2M also. maybe it was a bug of some kind with their software that seems to be fixed now. sorry Jim |

There are some problems with return characters in the forum--perhaps you've hit that? In any event, the 0xB9000000 value does mean 1 MB. And that is what GrabL2CacheSetting recorded when you ran it. You might try rebooting into Mac OS 9 and verifying that the Sonnet software is identifying your entire 2 MB. Then run GrabL2CacheSetting again and see if you get a different value. If so, you can re-import that settings file into L2CacheConfig. |

this is the L2Cacheconfig. i opened it with textedit so if this is not what you want youll have to tell me how to post it. 0xB9000000 this is the other ConfigureL2CR 1 L2CR 0xB9000000 MinClockRatio 0x08000000 UpdateInProgress 0 I know it is 2mb because the box and sonnet says its 2mb. cache control (when it worked) said it was 2mb Thanks for the help. |

Could you post the contents of a couple of files? One is the L2Cache.config file created when you ran the GrabL2CacheSetting application. The other is the preferences file at this path: /Library/Preferences/rempel.ryan.L2CacheConfig I should be able to determine what the problem is by looking at those two files. Or you can e-mail them to me if you prefer. |

Thanks for the pointer, I just checked and while L2 cache was enabled, it was enabled at a 4:1 speed ratio. I believe it should be 2:1 for my machine, so I expect I will see some change. Thanks again. |

You might double-check to make sure that your L2 cache is being enabled. Which software are you using for that? |
