Hello all, I plan to buy a second-hand PowerMac 9500 upgraded with a MacTell PowerJolt G3/400. I would like to install MacOS X on this machine. Did anybody experience that with this accelerator ? The company does not exist anymore but I think I'll be able to use recent Cache Control software. Does anybody think there will be major problems running MacOS X? Any info appreciated. I'm getting a kernel panic at boot with my 9500 using 2.2.3 and trying to do a fresh Jaguar installed. Will give 2.2.2 a shot and report back. BTW, I used 2.2 to get Jaguar onto the machine the first time and had it running 2.2.1 before I had to redo the system. |

It sounds as though you may be getting the "could not find a driver for your platform" error, which some people have reported with version 2.2.3 of XPostFacto. Is that the version you are using? |

Well, I know that when i'm using my 700mhz ibook, and playing a quicktime movie and scroll the movie around it continues to play smooth without and video/audio problems. However, when I do this on my Powermac 9600 it seems like its retrarded. The only answer is that the problem resides with the slow ram used in OldWorldMachines, and with the slow Backside bus. Hope this helps. Michael |

Hello guys. I was able to install 10.1.5 on this machine. Some problems with a hard drive but that's solved. Now I'm trying to install 10.2 but I got the following message: panic: We are hanging here... There's some info about the debugger that is not configured, there's also some white garbage on the top of the screen. I also got a "dumping debug information MSR=00001030". The target drive is formatted with Apple's Utility and is connected to the external SCSI port. Any ideas ? |

I personally don't think you will have major problems, unless your video card will have problems (this seems to be the major hurdle in the 9x00 series). One thing you could do it setup a partition on an internal HD that is about 4GB in size specifically for an OS X install (this is for X, apps for X you would use, and any files you want to keep under the X environment). PowerLogix and L2CacheConfig seem to be the best bet in turning on the L2 cache for upgrade cards of various manufacturers. |
