I am working on getting OS X server 10.2 installed on my PTP/200. I keep getting the boot apple then it goes toa black screen with a white rectangle in the top left corner (like the old Apple ][ cursor except not blinking). Now I cannot even boot back into 9 to try again. I did have OS X Server 10.1.x running on this box for 12 months. Has anyone gotten Jaguar Server running on a non-supported PM and if so what model? -psm |

I DID have the original 604e/200 in there. I can get back to 9 if i use an OS 9 CD and hold down C and then change the startup disk. Often Option will work but someitmes it does not and CUDA, PRAM etc do not help. Thank you for the tip about the G3/G4 I have a few extra G3/4 PCI,s lying around and I will try them. I did eventually get Server 10.1.5 installed and now it halts (offering to reboot or continue) and if I continue it works fine (or at least it has for 2 days of uptime). I really wanted server 10.2 on there so I will dig for a G3 and try that. Thanks for the tips. |

Do you still have the original processor installed? Mac OS X 10.2 does not work with the 604e CPU (unlike previous versions of Mac OS X). And the symptom is as you describe it. For the moment, a G3 or G4 upgrade card is the solution. It may be possible to fix the problem, but I haven't figured it out yet. As for booting back into Mac OS 9, there are a list of suggestions in the documentation--how far down the list have you reached? |
