I used Xpostfacto to successfully install 10.1.5 server on my 32GB Maxtor IDE (HDST 3.5 formatted) connected to an Acard IDE-SCSI adapter in my G3 400 upgraded 192 mb ram Powercenterpro. I have pulled the original 2940UW SCSI card and I am using motherboard SCSI. I then installed 10.2 server on a (too small) 1.3GB partition of my original SCSI 2GB drive, which works, but won't let me update to 10.2.1 due to lack of space. I then tried to install 10.2 server over the 10.1.5 on my 32GB Maxtor, with no success - no matter what settings I choose in Xpostfacto, I always boot in verbose mode, and I always get a kernel panic at the bottom of the first screen (with lots of screen artifacts). I then manually erased all of the 10.1.5 files from the maxtor in OS 9, but still had no luck (I think there may be some invisible files I can't erase). I then tried to re-install 10.1.5 on the Maxtor, but now I get through the main file installation and the computer locks up with the pointy cursor on a blank blue screen. Any thoughts? I'd really like to avoid reformatting the Maxtor if possible. I'm always booting verbose and single user now as well - how do I turn this off? The menu choices seem to have no effect. |

Do you boot in verbose mode when you try to reintall 10.1.5 from the CD? That is odd--I'm not sure how to explain that. If it is only when booting from your drive, it may be that the Aqua layer is not starting up successfully, so it is defaulting to verbose mode instead. The pointy cursor locking up at the blank blue screen could indicate a problem with your L2 cache software, since it is at about that point that it would run, and it could have this effect. You could try removing it from your /Library/StartupItems directory (or /System/Library/StartupItems, if it is installed there) and see if that helps. |
