I have a single HD on a Miles2 card. 18gb with 2 partitions. Running 10.1.5 on the first and 9.1 on the second. Last night after running like this for a week or so, I restarted into 9.1 to check something with my firmware for the Initio UW@ card. And when i opened XPF 2.2.2 to reboot into osX I was greeted with the grey circle and line through it. Nothing i have tried has changed this...do I need to start over and wipe that partition clean and re-install osX? I looked at the log and it looks like jibberish to me...here is that last part of it if it means anything to you. Our BootX version is newer. Hmm. You shouldn't get the "grey apple" (i.e. the new happy mac) at all in verbose mode (I believe), so I'm not entirely sure what is going on. Perhaps if you set the output-device (in the Open Firmware menu of XPostFacto) to your monitor, and then hold down command-v at restart, that might help. |

tried the other versions of XPF with much t he same results....booting regularly gave me a broken folder, and verbose got me the happy mac ( no error) but it hangs at the happy mac...i will let it go tonight and try booting from the 10.1 install disk and see what that gets me. |

The 8 GB problem does not apply to SCSI drives, so you should be OK on that score. Try holding down command-v as the computer restarts. By doing that, you should get an error message of some kind, rather than the circle with a slash through it. The circle with a slash is drawn by BootX, and indicates an error of some kind. From your log, it appears that XPostFacto has installed a new version of BootX. (It does that automatically if it has a newer version). It is possible that this new version is problematic for you. You could try using XPostFacto 2.2.1 or 2.2 to see if that works better. In that case, use the "Reinstall BootX" option, but don't reinstall extensions. Or you could try XPostFacto 2.2.3, which once again has a new version of BootX, which might help. But the most important thing is to try holding down command-v at restart, and see if you get an error message. |

Damn, my osX partition is 12GB's...i thought the 8 GB thing only pertained to IDE drives. I have tried re-installing bootX and extensions to no avail. I have also tried booting into single mode and nada..I will try the Verbose mode and see what happens. Thanks!! Yes i have Disk Warrior 2.0 and have run it with no success. But i will try these things as wel as rerunning Disk Warrior which has ALWAYS helped in the past...the only thing different about this current set-up is the larger partition and the fact that I am no longer running 2 HD's. |

Have you tried re-installing bootx and the extensions from XPF? Have you tried booting into verbose mode(hold down the apple+ v key)? also tried booting into single user mode(hold down apple + s keys) and if that works you will be in text mode and you can type in fsck which runs a disk repair utility. Verbose mode booting often works when regular booting doesn't I have no idea why. Disk Warrior ran from OS 9 would be my first choice for repairs. Norton Utilities my second choice. v.6.03 or 6.04 can be used to repair OSX from OS9 but don't use an older version. Any 6.0x version can be upgraded to 6.03 by using live update for free. 6.04 is a new version that must be paid for. Failing these to work or you having either of these utilites...You don't have to wipe the disk and start over. Just do an install like normal over the top of your present install. It will go through the disk and only replace defective code leaving all your apps & setting in place! I've been through this many times and it's a real pain the first few times something goes wrong. I hope this is of help. Will S |

How big is your boot partition? If it's > 8Gb you might have probs. |
