Can I go back to 10.1 for my 604e? |

I just got Jaguar and no longer have my 10.1 CDs. Forgetting that 10.2 does not run on the 604e (200mhz) in my 7600, I started Xpostfacto to get it to install Jag on my WD 40gb IDE hard drive (connected to a Sonnet ATA/66 IDE card). Of course, I get to the reboot stage and just get a black screen with white rectangle in upper left corner--which I assume means that the Jag CD didn't find a G3 or G4 (yes or no?). Now the system will no longer boot from the IDE hard drive, I would guess because Xpostfacto has overwritten something. Any suggestions on where to go from here (short of buying a G3 or G4 card)? By the way, I also have 10.1.5 installed on an older SCSI hard drive, which works fine (but the drive is very noisy). I bought the WD40 last week, installed 10.1.5 on it and was thrilled. I would hate to have to go back to the old SCSI. Is there any way to use it to ressurect 10.1.5 on the IDE drive? |

You are quite right, Ryan. When I tried booting on the WD40 drive again, it eventually did boot correctly, although it seemed to take quite a bit longer than usual. The startup times have been normal since then. Thanks for your help! |

In theory, a failed install of 10.2 should not prevent the current 10.1 installation from working. (At least, it should be OK when it fails this early--I suppose it would be problematic if it failed after the Mac OS X Installer started copying files). What exactly happens when you try to boot from the 10.1 volume now? |

Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the 10.1.5 system onto the WD drive. It's donationware, available if you do a search at versiontracker.com |
