PM7500 G4/800: No reboot after restart using 2.2.3 |

Using PM7500 with G4/800 Sonnet upgrade and Radeon 7000. Ever since upgrading to 10.2.1, my computer no longer can do a restart without having to turn it off. This is annoying because everytime I install new software that requires a restart I have to shut down the computer, wait a few seconds then turn it back on. I would say that 90% of time it comes on with no problems and the other 10% require several off/on cycles. Does anyone have any clues as to what is going on? Also just noticed that when rebooted into 9.1 and then using PostXFacto to get back into 10.2.1 upon pressing restart, my computer now makes a breaking glass sound and then will not reboot into 10.2.1 until I turn off the computer. Turning it back on works just fine. Did not have any of these problems using 10.1.5. Of note, have 768 Mb of RAM - 4X128 and 4X64 all de-interleaved. GuagePro and TechTool Pro in 9.1 show no problems with the RAM. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

Well, looks like I'm not the only one who was having problems with the OWC RAM deal. I too, bought two 128 MB sticks, and they BOTH were bad and gave me the breaking glass chime. I RMA'd my RAM and got new sticks, and now I have 608 gloriously interleaved 60ns RAM. Yay! Works great with my Sonnet G4/800 PCI. Mmmm...almost no swappage in os x < drool>. - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |

Thought it would only be fair to report my progress. OWC made good on its word and shipped out two replacement sticks. Installed them last night with no problems to now. Ran the Memtest utility overnight with no errors reported. Looks like the OWC RAM is a winner. By the way all 768Mb of RAM are interleaved in my system at this time. |

You should be able to get a cross-ship replacement of those two DIMMs from OWC. I also have the Sonnet G4 800 with 1Gig of OWC RAM. The only trouble I've had with the OWC RAM was with my previous processor, an XLR8 G4 450. |

Apparently figured out problem after messing around all night. The problem was two pieces of RAM from OWC - 128MB with 4K refresh. Apparently a great deal at the price but trouble with the new upgrades. OS 10.2.x and Sonnet G4800 apparently too sensitive to RAM since problem only began after both of these were added to my system. By the way the remainder of the 512 MB of RAM are now interleaved and having no problems with OS 9 or 10.2 with the Sonnet G4800. Got to love more RAM. Funny even though I had trouble restarting my system and hearing the breaking glass chime, when the computer was up it was very stable. Hopefully I can find a solution with OWC. Great site for support. After spending almost 2 hours reading every post in these forums, the solution was there. Many people are having problems with these 4k refresh sticks since upgrading either to 10.2 or a G4 card. By the way thanks to LARS for Radeon 7000 solution. Monitor starts up find and can see everything when booting in verbose mode all the way to the log in screen. |
