I have posted version 2.2.4b1 of XPostFacto. It should fix a problem with the version of BootX included in version 2.2.3. Here's the URL: http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/Download/XPostFacto2.2.4b1.sit The symptom of the problem is an early kernel panic, especially when trying to install Mac OS X 10.2 from a CD. The cause is that I had reduced the memory available to BootX for loading files. I thought that this was safe, because the biggest files which BootX needs to load are the kernel and the Extensions.mkext, which are both under 4 MB. What I forgot is that the Extensions.mkext is much larger on an install CD. In any event, version 2.2.4b1 ought to fix it. If you have been having trouble with 2.2.3, please let me know whether 2.2.4b1 helps. (Assuming it does, I will "officially" release it). |

Sometimes it helps to disconnect from your Ethernet network. I'm not sure why, but several users have reported that. Also, you could take a look at your log file (at /private/var/log/system.log) to see whether it gives any hint about what Mac OS X is trying to do when it grinds to a halt. |

Thanks for the update! I was struggling with 2.2.3, then finally found this thread, and got the 2.2.4b1 (both versions posted today!). The first Jaguar CD worked like a charm. After the first CD, the system restarted, and my monitor did not come back on. I restarted the system, and tried to continue installing off of CD2, and it didn't start installing the "Additional Software." After waiting 20 minutes for any indication of progress, I restarted the machine, and it looks like it should be working -- good startup screen, and the Mac OS X box pops up, with a progress bar. It goes through about half of the steps (judging from the progress bar), but right after "Loading IP Firewall," the box disappears and I'm left with a BLUE SCREEN. The cursor can be moved with the mouse, but nothing else happens -- it just sits there! Any ideas?!?!? It seems so close!!! Thanks so much! --Mike |

The new upload of 2.2.4b1 works great. I no longer get the ""Could not complete your request because of a program error". 10.2 installed without any problems. Thanks John |

Thanks for the reports about the errors. It turned out that there was some kind of glitch in the build process--I'm not sure what it was. In any event, rebuilding it and re-uploading it seems to have done the trick. So try downloading it again--it's the same URL and same name. The new version should work without the errors. |

Thanks for the new version I am using MacOS X 10.2 now. But here are some of mine findings I found by using the program. The first problem I encountered was the "Could not complete you request because of program error" But after that I think that it could had changed something and so I run the old 2.2.3 and the installer started with no problems. I do not know if this was something lucky or not but but I was able to install the 10.2 After the first CD finished I had to restart and the problems started. The system was started and it was hanged with no any disk activity, so I restarted with apple V to see where is hangs. Well the system was hanged at devfs on / dev So I restasted to OS 9 and used the 2.2.4b1 with the reinstall BootX cheaked. This was solved the problem and continued and finished the installation. I did three reboots with no any problems, but the forth had the same problem as befor it hanged in devfs on / dev and had to reinstall the bootx again to fix the problem. |

I can confirm that the new application errors on my box as well. Both the 'reinstall extensions' and the 'install extensions' menu commands return the same error that the command couldn't finish due to a program error. This also appeared on a freshly formatted drive (ATA drive, haven't tried SCSI). Stephen |
