PTP Success! (And some Questions) |

Hello All, I am happy to say that I'm writing this from my newly installed Mac OS X 10.1. In the end, some combination of changes helped to get this machine up and running: Removing the TERM jumper from my Matshita CDROM (thank you Britney) Moving the source and destination drives (and all other drives, as I've only one internal cable) from the FAST to the EXT SCSI bus Disconnecting the other drives and my Microspeed 3-button mouse in favor or the original PowerComputing 1-button (I don't know if either of these really helped at all) Using XPF 2.2.1 as suggested in a thread dealing with the unrecognized "AAPL,9500" platform error. So it's up and looks stable. My SyQuest EZ-135 Drive and Iomega 1GB Jaz also work (well, I haven't put them thoroughly through read/write tests, but they are recognized on the Desktop and open Finder windows when double clicked. But I do have some questions: I have noted that OS X won't boot (broken folder) if I now move the drive to the faster internal SCSI bus. Is there a way around this or am I permanently stuck with the 5Mbps bus? And if so, is it just the boot drive or does it apply to all drives? Thanks again for all the help! Raj |

Wow, it has been weeks since I posted this question. Sorry it took so long to report that I got it to work. By reinstalling boots and the kernel extensions AND resetting the termination jumper on my CDROM drive, I now have the machine running on the 10Mbps internal SCSI bus. Thanks for the hints everyone! |

Also, if you boot in verbose mode (with command-v held down) you should get some kind of error message rather than just the broken folder. |

The other thing that sometimes helps when the internal SCSI bus won't work is increasing the "throttle" setting in XPostFacto. Most people find that a setting of 4 is enough, but on some machines a setting as high as 12 is needed. (More than that is probably overkill). |

Try reinstalling bootx and the kernel extensions. I think this was a known problem with the older versions of XpostFacto and Unsupported Utility X. |
