Has anyone had any success using the Apple firmware version of the Adaptec 2940U2B card under 10.x, on one of the old world Macs (8600). I am currently using the Apple ATTO card in my 8600, which works fine, but would like to use the Ultra2 if possible. However when I swap the cards my OS X 10.2.1 fails to boot - I believe that this was also the case for earlier versions of OS X. The card works fine under OS 9.1. Any help would be much appreciated. |

That card will boot in a B/W running OSX, but not in an oldworld mac. This seemingly has nothing to with a driver, but rather the firmware of the card itself. It will work as a second drive (ie it's visible), I have an 8500 server setup like that (boots of regular old 50 pin.... On the other hand, Other World is clearing ATTO U2W cards for $29 bucks each (no cables). I bought one, but haven't tested it yet. Note it's external connecter is kind of weird.... Marty PS the ATTO Express PCI PSC is as fast as any of the SCSI cards I have tested (29160N,2940U2B,ATTO Express PCI PSC.) |

Thanks for your answers Just to clarify, this card is the Apple OEM version of the Adaptec 2940U2B, which was originally shipped as an option in the B & W G3 / B & W G3 Server machines. Apple are normally quite good at providing built-in driver support for their OEM cards, and although I haven't tried it, I'm sure this card would work in the B& W G3 or one of the newer machines. If there was a known problem under OS X, generally, Apple would have a knowledgebase article that described the issue. This card is running the latest firmware provided by Apple which is v1.2 so far as I am aware. |

Unfortunately there is no driver for it in 10.2.x or 10.1.x. Adaptec has dropped support for it basically. |
