"Mac OS X Server" can only be used as an installer |

I appologize if this has already been addressed, but I didn't see anything, and I don't see a search function. When I select the install CD in XPostFacto, it tells me that the CD can only be used as an installer. I'm trying to install on a 7600, RailGun 330MHz, OS 9.1, 384 meg Ram, two 18 gig Cheetahs on an ATTO (OWC $29 special) hacked Apple CD/DVD Driver 1.4, third party CD, onboard Video. I've tried both Server 10.1 and 10.2. I appreciate any suggestions you might have. Martin |

If you are installing onto one of the drives connected to the ATTO card, then that might be the problem--there are a couple of other threads here that suggest that the ATTO cards are not always bootable in Mac OS X. I haven't tracked down the issues to know what to suggest about that, but you might get some ideas from the other threads. One other common cause for this problem relates to the utility used to format the volume. Only Apple's Drive Setup (from Mac OS 9.x) or Intech's Hard Disk SpeedTools work reliably--the others are often creating non-bootable volumes, at least for older machines in OS X. |

Thank you for addressing my question, especially as dumb as it now seems. I just assumed that meant that it was not bootable. I am able to select the source and target disks, ExPostFacto copies private and system to the target disk, re-boots and hangs for a while ultimately booting into 9.1 There is no screen output and I'm not savvy enough to undertand the log-file. Well, I now know that my problem isn't the installer CD. I'll look through the threads again, but if you have any suggestions, I would dearly appreciate any help. Martin |

That's normal--the idea is that you would select a volume to install to, and then click on the "Install" button. Is that not available? |
