I have an 8500, G4/400 Sonnet, 592 de-interleaved RAM , 40G IBM HD, ATA 100 (2.3.9) in A1 slot, Radeon 7000 (removed for installs) & have a very stable 10.1.5 (except for a bonus fixed spinning cursor in the upper left hand corner of the screen). Using 2.2.4 I cannot get 10.2 to install (unfortunately requires 1st 8G of HD, I'd like to keep 10.1.5 & put 10.2 on another partition). The screen seems to be in a vicious cycle of: SAM mulitmedia: READ or WRITE failed ASC=0x64 ASC=0x00 Root disk1sos9: I/O |

I got 10.2 up and running. I reinitialized the disk and installed 10.2 using xpost facto. The first time I got to the gray startup page and got stuck with a bunch of hash on the screen. I reinstalled 10.2 on to the same location and preso!. No clue as to why it did not work the first time. Seems to be a boot issue My question now is if I replace the G3/450 with a G$/550 will it make a major difference ( $200 worth) Sridhar |

This is a follow up to my post yesterday in this thread. I took the suggestion from otisjones and diconnected the ehternet. Then I started with XPostfacto and tried to install Jagua with install disc #1 on an external SCSI CD-ROm (My internal is a Yamaha CD R/W which is not bootable). Things appeared to go swimmingly. in about an hour I got to the end of sick 1 and all the way to the 10.2 start up screen with the spinning cursor. Then I got a message on the top left hand corner "MESH#2" and got stuck. Could not find a way out except for the three finget salute (CNTL/CMD/Start) Incidentally I trashed the OSX 10.1.5 whihc had been working well up to this time also in trying to upgrade it. Given that this was a waste of almost two good hours, Any good ideas before I start again? Thanks p.s PM8500/160Meg memory, Powerlogix G3/400 running at 450 with a 55 Hz bus. Acard AHARD IDE with two IBM 30gig drives, Yamaha Internal CD R/ W and an Apple external CDRom. |

I am running a 8500 with the following configuration Powerlogix Z- Force with G3 400Mhz card. I have the bus at 55 Mhz and the card 450. I am using an Acard Ahard IDE card with two IBM drives but not using the raid feature. ACARD web site claims that there card is compatible with 10.2 with out a firmware upgrade. I h ave the most current one in their website. I orginally installed 10.1.5 using the original unsupported X driver. When I tried to install 10.2 using Xpostfacto 2.2.4 run in to the same brickwall at gsouther. I will spare you the messages because they are almost identical to that in the previous message. All sems to go OK. I get the gray screen with the apple but not the spinning cursor. Then I get the messages as shown below. I have attempted to install to another drive with little luck. I have no difficulty going back to 10.1.5 from OS9.1 using Xpostfacto. Any ideas? |

With ethernet disconnected & the Radeon 7000 seated (but monitor connected to stock port) 10.2 installed (only in 4 hours) & works great! Go figure. |

Did you try low leveling the drive? and testing with drive setup? Sure looks like a straight up drive problem. Which software did you format it with? Perhaps if you formatted with a 3rd party util (ie FWB) 10.2 doesn't like the drivers. |

New to the forum, not sure why all the eol-s got eaten. This is an attempt at a repost to make it more readable, with extra I am running an 8500, XLR8 G3/500, 336MB interleaved, atto miles SCSI card, Orange micro USB/Firewire card. Reboot after xpf panics, with the following. I have tried booting with the drive on both the internal and external scsi bus, tried removing all other devices on the external bus and booting from there, and have tried booting without the PCI cards installed. Some message make it appear as if the there is a hw problem with the drive, but it seems to work fine with OS9. This makes me think something isn't getting installed correctly, some of the messages seem to point that way. Help appreciated. |
