In 10.1.5 my firewire hd and cdrw always mounts on start up, but in 10.2 sometimes they don't mount and just going to the disk utility does not work (does not see them). The only way to mount them is to restart. whats wrong? this is not going to make me go back to 10.1.5 because Jag is much better thanks |

I think i may have stummbled accross the problem. normaly i would turn all of my peripherals before my computer, but, it seems that if i do just the opposite they work every time, it may be that the HD trys to find somthing and does not whenit starts then just gives up. seems very unlikely (explination at least) but by doing it it seems to have helped. |

Could you compare the output from kextstat when the firewire devices work and when they don't? That is, using a terminal window, type the following command: kextstat This will show which drivers loaded. It will be interesting to see whether the Firewire drivers failed to load in cases where the devices don't work. One thing you could try is unplugging the Firewire cable and then plugging it in again. It depends where the problem is occurring--whether the problem is that the drivers for the PCI card aren't loading, or whether the problem occurs later in the process. |

I have the same problem, powderhaus. I often connect my Pismo to the server via FireWire target disk mode, and I have to restart the server because of the drive not being recognized. I'm running 10.2.1 and XPF 2.2.4 on a 9500 with an OWC FireWire card. The other specs are 400 MB RAM, (1) 40 GB and (1) 120 GB drive hooked to SIIG ATA/133 card, Matrox video, RealTek 10/100 NIC, SIIG USB card, and an upgraded 12x SCSI CD-ROM. Any ideas? |
