I installed Jaguar on my Supermac S900 (Sonnet G4 board, 1 GB ram, Sonnet ATA 66 to a 40 GB IBM HD) which went OK but Nortons 6 kept giving messages like: A major error was found in a file record in the Catalog B-tree. Node 9045, record 9 "admin.5b818fc0" has an incorrect data logical length. (10,7,36) The problem was fixed. This would happen every other time I would use OS X. OS X got worse, Classic wouldn't load, and OS X stopped booting leaving me in OS 9.1. I had the minimal 9.1 system in the first 8 GB partition. I upgraded OS 9.1 in the other partitions. I'm tring to reinstall OS X with XpostFacto 2.2.4 but the install stops after 2 min. Would it be better to remove the previous OS X before a reinstall rather than write over the prior install? Writing over the install doesn't seem to work as the screen goes black after a 2 min (a guess) and remains comatose. So this maybe a retorical question since nothing seems to be going on. Thanks very much. Eric |

I have the 10.2 and from time to time I have great problem in the hard disk. I do not know if that was because of the drivers of the ATA card or something. But after some research I found the following. Try to run fsck from single user mode to see if your system has problems. I found that there are case the apple's disk first aid from OS 9 find problems and on the other hand the fsck did not found any problem at all. Is something changed to the directory stracture of OS 9 that disk first aid find problems and it is correct for X. I think that there is a neef for a new disk first aid for 9 that works as the one in X and also to give the users the ability to run it (even as in verify mode) in OS X for the startup volume in order the user to know if there is a problem with their system and fix it by booting from CD. |

The reinstall on a clean partition of OS 10.2 was OK. The monitor won't hold all recommended settings. Sometimes it can be adjusted but other times only the lowest monitor setting 640x480. Nortons 6 finds errors daily such as "A major error was found in a file record in the Catalog B-tree. Node 9045, record 9 "admin.5b818fc0" has an incorrect data logical length. (10,7,36) The problem was fixed." This same problem was present in the previous 10.2 install that overtime went to crap. I have classic installed and it loads this time OK. I haven't gotton to the L2 cashe issue yet. I wonder if that would change things? Thanks. Eric |

Well fans. the install stalled after the 1st disk and went dead. So we'll try and erase the partition and try from scratch. Eric |

I do have a question about the minimal OS 9.1 system in the partition with X. Does this minimal OS 9.1 need to be upgraded via the software update panel? How is this done since this system doesn't have extensions for internet access? Previously, I didn't upgrade this 0S 9.1 and I'm thinking maybe that led to my prior problems. Thanks very much. Eric |

Oops, I spoke too soon. After a blank screen, came a screen with all text with a continuing flickering of the CD drive. This was followed by the now familiar install questions and prompts. Soooo maybe we'll come out of this latest journey OK. Thanks. Eric |
