Hi everyone! I finally purchased a new Powermac to replace my trusty S900 and am quite happy with it. But now I want to make my S900 into a fileserver and I want OS X on it. I am a relative newbie to all of this so I am looking for some guidance from all you kind folks... Has anyone succeeded installing OS X (10.1 or 10.2--I have both install CDs) on an S900? Here's what I have on my S900: RAM - 416 Meg interleaved CPU - NewerTech 333 Mhz G3 CD Drive - Panasonic 8x CD Drive (has Apple ROM) Hard Drives - 3 SCSI drive: (2) 2 Gig hard drives, (1) 9.2 Gig hard drive Video: Stock Twin Turbo TT128 8 Meg PCI card Everything else is stock. My OS 9.1 is on one of the 2 gig drives, and the 9.2 gig drive contains pictures and mp3s. I have wiped out my other 2gig drive (from OS 9.1's Disk Setup utility) and am reserving it for OS X. Other than having to move my drives to the slower internal SCSI chain, does anyone know what else I might need to do?? Will OS X work with the Video Card? And is the interleaved memory ok to have? Thanks eveyone!! --Bondster!! |

X will work with you video card but the GUI will be horrendously slow. I would definitely go for Jaguar, especially if you get a new video card (i would recommend a Radeon Mac edition(not the 7000)(if your not going to be at this computer a lot then you probably dont need it)). We have also recently discovered to problems for the Crashes in jag (read the forum about L2 cache enablers or the one about memtest) Other than that you should be ok. |
