Beige G3 install problems |

When I attempt to install OS X 10.2.2 I have reccuring kernal panics. I zaped the pram before my latest attempt with no success. I have 400+ Meg main memory. There has been talk about removing PCI cards before installation attempts. I wouldn't mind removing the usb/firewire adapter card, but my monitor is using the ATI Rage II+ video card. There seems not other way to connect the monitor. Suggestions? Thanks! |

Beige G3s have built in video using a Rage II+ in the original beige G3 or Rage Pro on later beige G3s. The chips are on the mother-board and the connector is next to the serial ports on the back... If you're using a PCI video card with Rage II+ then try removing it and use the built in connector. If you have nothing to remove then your problem lies elsewhere. |

My goof! I just realized you're talking beige G3 here and I know less than nothing about them. Sorry. |

You don't say what kind of machine you're using. I'm no expert on older Macs (or any other Macs for that matter), but I didn't think there were any PCI Macs without onboard video output. If you don't have onboard video and the ATI card is causing the kernel panics, I don't know what you can do. But on the off chance there's something to it, take a look at the video cards section of the XPF Compatibility web site. Good luck. |
