I've been happily running X on my J700 with XPostFacto since last May, and I have been especially happy running it after I bought both an ACARD/Ahard 66 card from OWC at Macworld and a Western Digital 30 gig drive from Best Buy last July, since it gave me more storage and a speed boost from using X on a SCSI drive. However, I recently upgraded to Jaguar a month ago. I had no problems getting it to upgrade to 10.2 onto one of the WD's partitions, and it booted up properly. However, when I upgraded it to 10.2.1, something weird happened - the drive would start up and try to load, then after thirty seconds it would give up and then load OS 9 from a SCSI disk I hvae that installed on. Strangely, I have no such problems with installing Jaguar 2.1 or 2.2 on a Quantum 4.5 gig SCSI drive which is also on the computer - this is what I am currently running as I am typing this. |

I have an Acard ATA/100 and a WD 80GB SE and ran across an odd problem too, but it was easilly remedied with Drive Setup. I was experimenting and decided to reformat the drive and reinstall 10.2.2 on it. I formatted repartitioned and formatted it in 10.2.2 from another drive and then attempted to install with XpostFacto. It would hang at the white screen every time I launched the installer. After a few attempts I repartitioned and reformatted with drive setup, launched the installer with XpostFacto and it worked. Incidentally, the OSX partition is 20GB. |

I have an ACARD ATA66 controller and a WD400BB 40GB drive. Never had a problem with the setup. Was the drive partitioned with Apple's Drive Setup? Also run Disk First Aid under OS9 to see if you have any corrupted files. When I updated from 10.2 to 10.2.1 I couldn't get X to boot until I ran Disk First Aid and repaired the drive. |
