I've been happily running X on my J700 with XPostFacto since last May, and I have been especially happy running it after I bought both an ACARD/Ahard 66 card from OWC at Macworld and a Western Digital 30 gig drive from Best Buy last July, since it gave me more storage and a speed boost from using X on a SCSI drive. However, I recently upgraded to Jaguar a month ago. I had no problems getting it to upgrade to 10.2 onto one of the WD's partitions, and it booted up properly. However, when I upgraded it to 10.2.1, something weird happened - the drive would start up and try to load, then after thirty seconds it would give up and then load OS 9 from a SCSI disk I hvae that installed on. Strangely, I have no such problems with installing Jaguar 2.1 or 2.2 on a Quantum 4.5 gig SCSI drive which is also on the computer - this is what I am currently running as I am typing this. |

I'm not sure what is likely to be causing that--the symptom you describe often relates to the software used to format the drive, but that doesn't appear likely to be the problem in your case. One thing you could try is setting the "output-device" in the Open Firmware menu of XPostFacto and then holding down command-v when rebooting. This should give you some messages on the screen before it reboots into Mac OS 9, and may help indicate what the problem is. |

My Acard Ahard 66 is hooked to a Maxtor 60 gig and boots fine with 10.2, 10.21 and now 10.22. Did you try the various jumper positions? I think WD has a stupid "stand alone" mode. |
