Hello to all, For the past months I am trying to make my orangemicro USB2 /Firewire card to work with OS X and an external Firewire box I have. But the problem is that I could not make it to work. I have tryed the bvox at a B&W G3 firewire and it works. So I think that my card has the problem. I show at the OWC website the MacAlly 2 Port FireWire + 2 Port USB 2.0/1.1 Combo PCI Card. Compatible with OS 8.6-9.x, OS X. (MACFH2UF24). This card is compatible with all the PCI 2.1 machines. My question is: Is this card compatible with my machine?? Have anyone used it with an oxford911 chipset box?? Please help as I do not know what else to that to purchase a new card. |

I am just purchased a USB2.Firewire card from RATOC. The Firwire works fine now. They just do not have any drivers for USB2, but as I continue to have the orange I can acces it from there (at least I think as I do not have any USB2 devices). |

I echo gchron's concern about the Macally USB2.0/FW card. I bought it for my PM9600/XLR8 G4 400 equipped Mac. Ever since I installed it I have experienced system freezes in OS 10.2.3. I downloaded their software update and moved the card to every PCI slot possible with no luck. I am writing this between freezes and also am ready to return my card to Club Mac. Anyone have luck out there with a similar configuration: PM 9600/XLR8 G4/400 736 MB Ram IBM stock HD 4.5 GB/OS 9.2 IBM 36GB HD/OS 10.2.3 IBM 18GB HD/OS 9.1/attached to ACARD SCSI PCI ACARD 6712 SCSI PCI - 1 ATI Radeon 7000 - 2 Open - 3 Internal Fan - 4 Belkin 2 port USB - 5 Macally USB2.0/Fire Wire - 6 |

I have a Sonnet Tango which runs fine in my 8600. However, be aware that this only supports USB V1.1 - this post is supposedly about Firewire/USB 2 cards. You'll need a Tempo Trio if you want USB2 support from Sonnet. |

Okay, here's the scoop... The Macally will only work with PCI slots v2.1 and above. My 7300 has PCI slots v2.0. I spoke with OWC and will be trying the Sonnet Tango that apparently supports v2.0 PCI slots. I'll let you know... |

I have a sonnet Tango FW/USB card and it works fine with both 9.2 and 10.2.2. I have checked both the USB and the firewire side with success( PM85000/384meg/Acard 6860/30gig IBM deskstarsX2/Sonnet 700MHz upgrade/Voodoo 3/) |

Thanks for all the feedback. I've used the fix permissions options but it's not that. My card seems to be doing exactly like your CompUSA model. Who knows, it might be the same card with a different name but based on the responses so far it sound like my card isn't going to work. |

I have a Powerlogix RapidFire USB (1.1) and Firewire PCI card in my 8600 (+Powerlogix G4/450 card). It works to this day w/o drivers. However, I'm watching several eBay auctions for combo FW/USB 2.0 PCI cards for my 9600. They're going for $30-$45. Seach on "firewire usb pci mac" in the top level Computer Section (verses the Apple only section). Happy Hunting! --Dwight |

Thanks kbata for the input. But I had tried the card with Hollywood DV studio and also did not had any problems. Also marcush I would like to inform you that it not a permission error as It started to copy and hangs if the file very big. I tried to reformat the disk with no any change. I think that it is a problem of the oxford 911 with orange card. I will purchase a new card and I will inform all of you with the new data. |

I have an Orange USB 2.0/Firewire card and it has worked fine for USB printing, Keyboard and mouse. On the Firewire side I have only used a Cannon DV camcorder with IMovie. It works fine for that. It uses the drivers that come with OS X. I haven't tested it with and drives yet. |

It may or may not work but you could try running fix permissions with Disk Utility. The first time I tried to run the DVD player after installing it my Power Tower Pro locked up. I rebooted and ran fix permissions, which corrected several problems. Since then the DVD player works without problems. On another note. My Ratoc card works with all of my devices (e.g. Firewire HD, Firewire Pioneer DVD-R, Canon ZR20 Mini-DV camcorder, Canon Powershot A40 Digital camera, Creative Nomad II mp3 player). I did have a problem with my previous Firewire/USB card. It was a CompUSA model with internal power connector and Lucent chips for the Firewire and USB busses. USB was fine but Firewire write speeds were barely 4MB/s and reads topped of at 10MB/s. Eventually it copying to my Firewire hard drive would freeze the machine after about 10 seconds. Obviously, there was a problem with the card and my machine. I still have it but have not tried it with any of my other Macs yet. |

The Macally isn't working for me... |

I have the Macally with a Sonnet 400/G4 on a Mac 7300 . I have never had a problem with OS X, 10.1.3 thru 10.2.2 until I got this card -- but then again, I wasn't able to connect Firewire and USB devices either before I got this card. My SCSI external drive, my Jazz drive, and SCSI CDRW burner all work great. I have successfully used the USB side of the card but when I use the Firewire card to connect my digital camera and use iMovie the Mac freezes. If I then disconnect the camera the Mac "un-freezes". I got an iPod this weekend that works perfectly on my flat-iMac and hard freezes my 7300. Can anyone help me here? anyone else with this issue? Thanks |

Macally works great. The only problem experienced is when booting from 10.2 back into 9.2, I often need to unplug and replug the USB cable for my Mouseman Optical to get the button assignments to function correctly. This may not be a fault of the card however. I recommend the card. |

I doubt that means that the card would not work at all. USB and Firewire are standard interfaces now. My Ratoc card's USB 2.0 interface is officially unsupported on oldworld machines also but it works like a champ! |

Go to smartdisk.com and click on the link to their products page. Then there is a sidebar with PCI cards as a selection. It'll take you to their Yahoo store front. It's $89, which is good considering I paid $120 for mine originally. The smartdisk card has 1 internal firewire and 1 internal USB 2.0 port, as well as the power connector. I've been thinking moving to a PC ATX case. I've seen some nice ones with front panel USB and Firewire connectors. |

marcush pleasre inform me about the smartdisk card as I would like more ports available (That is and the reason of the original purchase of the orangelink card - the three USB) Also the Orangemicro do not have drivers for firewire only for the USB2 part of the card need drivers. Also something else the orangelink card works perfectly as USB on X only the firewire has the problem, and also both firewire and USB work perfectly in OS 9. |

I thought the Orange Micro cards have their own drivers? Perhaps that is what the problem is. If I were you though I'd get a card that will work with OS X's built in support. I think Macally fits the bill. I have a Ratoc Firewire/USB 2.0 card in my Power Tower Pro. I love it. It's fast and has it's own power connector so it does not draw power from the PCI bus. Smartdisk also has a Powered card that has 4 USB2.0 and 3 Firewire ports. It looks attractive but I don't know about compatability. I'm considering getting one to try out. |

I use the older Macally FW/USB1 card in my Old world machine and it was plug and play. Interestingly I ditched my Orange Micro FW card when OSX came around because it DIDN't work. Marty |
