Are userid's being 'harvested'? |

I've started getting spam when before I was lucky and kept my email address private etc. It sure seems that it is being harvested from somewhere, and I personally don't like to see my email address or part thereof (just add the "@" and start throwing domain names onto it). No one should have to live and fear that posting to a message board is going to be harvested. I would think macsales would notice or see if it was happening, but I don't know. I use to use newsgroups but had to change ISP, change email address, and refrain from posting. What was once a nice friendly place full of help and friends became abused to the point of having to use fake email address, and even now Google etc harvest anything they can, even MacInTouch reader feedback pages (which is why MacFixit Pro and subscriptions make sense). I'd hate to think that this forum was abused in such manner. |

So far as I know, nothing like that is happening. Avoiding that sort of thing is part of the reason we make this password-protected, rather than allowing open access. Of course, I get an astonishing amount of spam myself, but for other reasons :-) Apple's Mail program is doing a better and better job of filtering it out, though. |
