Ok in the interest of providing correct info... The card used by the German hacker is avaiable in the USA from newegg.com for $44.00 including shipping! This is an amazing price. You should know this card is made by a company called Sapphire (German company?) and not ATI. It is made under license and I think uses ATI Video chip controller. These cards are not normally available at retail in the USA. I don't know if it is the exact same card as the ATI of the same name or not but it is the one used successfully. No reports yet using the ATI made cards. Best of luck PS. It is possible other cards will be made to work as well but people have been working on this for years and this is the first time it's worked sofar. The flasher utilites seem to be the key. |

I don't think it will have much of an advantage, other then the cost, and the vram for texture storage/model storage. I have purchased the Powercolor Radeon 9000 PCI from newegg. $49.00 shipped. I realize this is VERY unlikely to ever work on the mac at all, let alone on the Old World macs, but at that price I couldn't resist playing with it.... I will attempt to flash it with the AGP models firmware (9000) for starters, but again this seems unlikely to work. Marty |

Apart from more RAM, I also wonder what advantage it may have over the Mac Edition 7000. How does it compare in performance to the original Mac Edition Radeon? is it worth it? I've been trying to find some comparative data online but have not found anything yet. |

If people say this one would not work and it does...maybe that means others (like the 8500 and the 9000) will work too!!!! |

ok, here's a dumb question: What can you expect from the 64mb 7000 over the 32 mb 7000? If it works for some of you,I may have to get one this weekend. Perhaps I can pay someone to flash it for me? |

For what it's worth the guy who wrote the story on the hacks is running OS 9.1 with upgrades and belives his Beige G3 can't run OSX!! Someone needs to tell him about XPFacto ;-) I've read all the english on his forum story and maybe half the German. One guy agrees there is no reason it won't work with OSX but it is yet to be tested which I may soon do. Note the forum alrady talks about why the other cards like the 7500 and 9000 won't work. There is no Mac Rom file which will work with these cards. The only available Mac rom file is the Mac Edition and Mac 7000 and they do work with the 7000 but only the 64 mb DDR PCI version. There are it seems SRAM cards that won't work. So a lot of people if they aren't careful will buy the wrong cards and waste their time and money. |

Are you sure you were looking at the correct card? The ATI PC 7000 64mb DDR PCI card cheapest google web price costs $58.00 + $5-10. for shipping. The ATI PC 7000 32 mb PCI card is cheaper and the AGP cards are likely the $40.00 cards you are thinking of. But so what they aren't the ones that work. Sorry but we need corret facts if we're going to get anywhere. ;-) I have found the correct card for local pickup at Circuit city for $69.99 still cheaper then the Mac 7000($129.00)and it's 64 mb or video ram not 32! I'm thinking of buying one tomorrow. If so I will let people know how it goes! |

Strangely he has now added a line to his howto description which says: " I think the card will work in older PCI MACS to. The only thing you MUST have ist OpenGL 1.2.4 ! And dont´ dream of OS X (on not supportet machines). Only G3 beige and (better) G3 b/w are OS X ready (with that card). The reason ist the differnt boot system. older MACS don´have Open Firmware (NEW WORLD ROM). " It seems to me that it would work with XPF, my regular radion PCI does.. I'll have to find one and try.
