Dennis780 has a SCSI drive so the 8 gig limit doesn't apply. |

dennis780 You don't mention whether you have partitioned the 18G drive or not. OS X will not install on an older machine unless the drive has an 8G (actually 7.75) first partition to install X into. |

Does anybody know if v3.0 will install where 2.5.5 will not? I have an Adaptec SCSI card to which I have attached a completely blank 18gb Ultra Wide hard drive. I want to install OS-X on that device. The computer is a terrific Power Computing Power Wave clone with a Sonnet Crescendo G4 card. When I try to run XPF installer, it won't copy all the files to the 18gb drive. It produces a disk error message. I've wiped and re-wiped the drive, but because it's Ultra Wide it won't mount without the SCSI card. Any advice would be appreciated. I am new to this forum |

External SCSi boots fine, normal in all aspects, nice interface with explanations, I plan on trying an FWB drive with X using standard drive as a "helper".............. |

Well, I got the 200 GB HD to boot OS X. I had to unmount the Seagate's OS X partition in OS 9 so XPF3 could then "see" the Target HD partition. This is, I hope, a bug that will get fixed for the release, as I'm sure that there are more people out there than just me that keep OS X "restore" partitions as a backup (I do, after all, have a total of 240 GB of HD to waste). XPF3 cannot boot the Panther Install CD like XPF 2.2.5 can for some reason. I get as far as "MULTIMEDIA READ or WRITE FAILURE". Oh well. Soooooooooooon. Then the SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMZ can fly! - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |

I have found that I have to boot in verbose mode otherwise the LoginWindow process crashes repeatedly with a Bad Instruction exception and the login screen never appears. Also the following error message appears repeatedly in the system log file during the boot sequence mach_kernel: IOFireWireSBP2Login::fetchAgentWriteComplete fetch agent write failed! retrying Finally the SonnetCache.kext extension seems to cause the system to hang early in the boot sequence so I'm using PowerLogix CPU Director to enable my L2 cache. |

Cannot get a firewire boot. Hangs at same spot as Patrick Brooks. In verbose mode it always hangs at "waiting for authentication services". Using an OWC portable FW drive & OWC 3-port FW card in a 9600. Nice interface improvement in 9. |

I've got two partitions on two separate HDs with the exact same OS X setup on each partition, right down to the last byte (one is kept as a "restore" using Apple Software Restore in case the OS X partition I use gets corrupted beyond repair or an update fubars it). XPF3 absolutely *refused* to see both at the same time. I actually had to erase one of the partitions for XPF to even see that partition in its list. It will NOT see more than one OS X partition at a time for some reason. Really REALLY irritating as the partition I want to boot is on the 200 GB HD, and XPF3 just won't see it no matter what. XPF 2.x will see it just fine (but can't boot it due to, according to Sonnet's not-so-knowledgeable folks, the 8 MB Cache controller on the WD HD). I have six mounted partitions: On the Western Digital 200 GB SE HD: Defiant (OS 9 Main) Deep Space Nine (Apps/Music) Babylon 5 (Downloads/Storage) Target HD (OS X 10.2.6 "Restore" partition - a Backup) On the Seagate 40 GB HD: Mac OS X HD (OS X 10.2.6 Main) Cargo Bay 4 (Storage/Temporary OS X Installer CD mirror partition) XPF 3 will see the Mac OS X HD partition, but under no circumstances will it see the Target HD partition UNLESS I erase the Target HD partition and leave nothing on it! Absolutely USELESS for booting OS X off my 200 GB HD using a "helper" when it can't SEE the partition to begin with. :( Hopefully this will get fixed in a future release. I did manage to get XPF3 to "see" the Target HD partiton with OS X on it ONCE, and tried using a "helper" (in this case, Cargo Bay 4) to boot OS X on my 200 GB HD. Sadly it refused to do so, and booted instead the OS X off the Mac OS X HD partition. For some reason, XPF3 simply *cannot* handle multiple OS X partitions mounted at the same time. - Chibi Delennâ„¢ |

works for me, but all my prefs did not make the transition over, because my Home folder was on my firewire drive and i drag and dropped it on another partition so i could formate the first one and drag and droppped them back (while in the root) but some/most did not come over, and i have to redo m whole buddy list, i think i may just formate the whole thing this weekend... |

Hello all. I just used XPF3 ( Ryan, You're a genius ) to boot OSX 10.2 from a Lacie firewire drive with a Sonnet Tango USB/FW combo card in a beige G3 300DT . Worked like a charm. I'm in the process of updating the software as I type. FYI a restart booted up without having to reuse XPF. Will keep you abreast if any problems arise. Robert |

Well, just tried it with my 6500/225 and still get the gray screen where the finder should start (I think). Nice new interface though. Anyone want to trade a 10.1.5 disk for a 10.0 and a 10.1? haha. I will keep trying though. |
