Can you boot from the OS9 CD? In my case, I had hosed my 9.2.1 install by going to 9.2.2. I was forced to diconnect my classic drive, then I could boot off the cdrom. Only then could I reconnect the drive to fool with the system folder enough to boot to 9. After booting to an archived version of 9.1 I was able to see that XPF had all the debug options on. At that point, I was able to reboot. Still haven't fixed my 9.1/9.2.1/9.2.2 problem yet. I've been convinced now that classic is a curse for me! You have to be gutsy to boot a box open and then connect power to a drive after booting on the CDROM. It should work event with single drive systems. hope this helps. stephen |

Regarding the 10 second boot with nothing more happening, this is something that I saw recently when I upgraded to XPF 2.2. Interestingly, the debug options were all turned on! So, whenever I tried to boot to X, it would hang after the bong, I'd get a moment of sync, then nothing. turning all the debug options off fixed it for me. specs: 8600, XLRG4 450, Sonnet ATA100, Sonnet USB/Firewire, Radeon 7000 10.1.5 stephen |

I've been in that same state with my Powerwave... Scary I had to swap out the radeon PCI for another video card to get my video back, and then I could re install the Radeon. I think this is also documented somewhere, perhaps with an easier fix? So did you ever get the 800Mhz upgrade to boot in your Xpostfacto install without the L2 cache enabled? Personnaly I would have stuck with Ryan's cache enabler.... |

Right now I'm dealing with a big problem. I had the card installed last night and installed the Sonnet cache software but it did not seem to do a complete install. I could not find the Sonnet G4 enabler or Metronome anywhere. Also, guage pro was reporting it as a PPC 601 processor running at 533Mhz? After several reinstalls of the Sonnet utilities with no luck I shut down. Now, since about 11pm last night my PTP won't boot. I get the startup chime and the monitor signal light comes on for about 10 seconds and then goes out. There's no disk activity at all. I let it sit overnight until about 1pm with the PRAM battery pulled out and I still can't boot. I swapped back in my XLR8 Mach Carrier Mpe G4 450 SSE card and stripped the machine down to just my ACARD ATA 100 and boot drive and my Radeon PCI card and removed all but one stick of RAM and it still will not boot. I get the chime and 10 seconds of the monitor signal light and then it goes out again. Sam thing with the G3 500 processor that I had installed before the G4 450. I'm stuck. The only thing I have not tried yet is sticking the original proccesor back into it. Unfortunately, I have to wait until tomorrow before I can get it back here. This is very odd. Usually, pulling the battery for a few hours or even a few minutes will get me back to a bootable state. I don't think there is a problem with the logic board because I still get the chime and themonitor signal briefly. Any ideas? I'll also be talking to Sonnet tomorrow. |

Ok, Marcush, talk to us. I got a 9600 that's waiting for it, but I want to hear about it's operation first. --Dwight |
