Sorry, I'm completely perplex here: what do you mean by "slow" sector? |

I haven't seen the UnsupportedOption(1) error before, so that is something different than what version 2.2.2 of XPostFacto fixes. Though it does arise at the same time as the other error. It would be interesting to find out whether other people with a patched 9.2.2 for older systems are seeing this error. If the clean install of 9.1 doesn't help, let me know and there are a few things you could try in order to help diagnose the problem. |

Responding to Mr. Rempel's questions -- 1) Classic gets as far as opening it's startup window, but not so far as a "Happy Mac". In fact, it doesn't get the gray screen drawn. Let's say about 1 sec or less. 2) Here's the pertinent portion of system.log: *** Start log excerpt *** Sep 14 09:13:08 zPM7500 /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: /System/Library/CoreServices/Classic Startup.app/Contents/Resources/TruBlueEnvironment could not be launched prebound. Sep 14 09:13:08 zPM7500 /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: /System/Library/CoreServices/Classic Startup.app/Contents/Resources/TruBlueEnvironment couldn't be prebound in the past, and probably can't be prebound now. Sep 14 09:13:08 zPM7500 /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: 2002-09-14 09:13:08 -0500: prebinding for TruBlueEnvironment done. Sep 14 09:13:10 zPM7500 Classic[500]: *** The BlueBox just crashed! *** Sep 14 09:13:10 zPM7500 Classic[500]: ERROR = UnsupportedOption(1) Sep 14 09:13:10 zPM7500 WindowServer[426]: CGXPostEventByConnection: invalid connection *** end log excerpt *** 3. I'll try the others' suggestion of a fresh 9.1 install when I get a chance. Thanks for a wonderful product. |

Tom: What exactly happens when you try to launch Classic? How far do you get? Are there any error messages in the system.log or console.log ( located in /var/log )? |

Tom, OS X doesn't need a patched version of 9.2.2 to run as Classic. I realize that you're probably using your primary OS 9 boot partition as your Classic environment, but you might want to try doing a new, clean installation of 9.1 -> 9.2.1 -> 9.2.2. OS X will run 9.2.2 under the Classic environment on any machine that runs OS X. Classic startup doesn't depend on the machine type. You only need Ben's OS 9 patches to BOOT into 9.2.2 as your OS. You can always install 9.1 to these machines. To do the 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 updates, choose the clean installation of 9.1 as your Classic environment. Once Classic is running under 9.1, Classic will allow the 9.2.x updaters to run cleanly. |

Congratulations Ryan! How you found this issue is beyond most, if not all, of us, so you truly are the OS X Guru. I'd like to add my thanks for giving me the opportunity to save over $1000 on a new machine by getting the old one to run OS X. Not a bad return on the $10 investment in XPF. Just received my Jaguar CDs. Scanned them and found only one slow sector in the "Extensions.mkext" file. Scanned the second set of CD's and found the exact same sector to be slow in the same file. Should be an interesting upgrade to Jaguar this weekend. Tony |

Fantastic! It is always nice to see a smiling face! Here's mine ... :-D BTW, for the record, I've got Classic 9.1 to work in 10.2 on my Sonnet Crescendo G4/400MHz upgraded PowerMac 9500. |

Ryan, I just want to add my thank you as well. Using XPostFacto 2.2.2, my G4-upgraded 9500 runs Classic in 10.2! I am deeply in your debt! |
