Testing using Let1KWindowsBloom and ShadowKiller
Let1KWindowsBloom is a graphics/processor performance test for Mac OS X. It opens and closes 1000 windows on your main display as quickly as possible, recording how fast it is able to perform this task. Many people feel that this is a good "seat of the pants" test as normally moving windows on the screen is a "it feels faster" test - if your perception of how fast a task is taking feels quicker, it really may be! In all of these tests, the graphs are in seconds taken to perform the test, and shorter bars are better. Most of the charts speak for themselves. In all tests, both Millions of colrs and Thousands of colors was used, as well as turning drop shadows on and off via ShadowKiller from Unsanity. In the final test, Mac OS X 10.1.5 was pitted against Mac OS X 10.2 and it's Quartz Extreme graphics acceleration. Time to execute the Let1KWindowsBloom test using iMac G4/700 and iMac G4/800 systems- Mac OS X 10.1.5 Time to execute the Let1KWindowsBloom test using a Power Macintosh G4 AGP "Sawtooth" system equipped with both stock processor and video card, and also a PowerLogix PowerForce Series 100 G4/1GHz upgrade and ATI RADEON 8500- Mac OS X 10.1.5 Same system setup as previous test, except only the 1GHz upgrade and different video cards were used, and Mac OS X 10.1.5 and Mac OS X 10.2 (Quartz Extreme with the RADEON) were tested against each other. |
