Part Numbers:

  • OWCTCDRVDCK (USB-C - 3.1 Gen 2)
  • OWCTB2U3DKR2 (TB2, USB 3.1 Gen 1)
  • OWCU3DRVDCKN (USB 3.1 Gen 1 only - Legacy)

Please note that depending on the type of Mac you're using, the ability to Option-boot may require a slightly different approach than what is seen with other OWC storage products. Specifically, when using the Option-boot screen to select one of the drives connected to the dock, please power on the Drive Dock only after you've reached the Option-boot screen. If the device is powered on prior to warm or cold Option-booting, the system volume(s) connected to the dock may not appear in the Option-boot screen.

Note also that if you attempt to set a drive connected to the dock as the standard boot volume (via System Preferences > Startup Disk), again depending on the host type, it will work, but the volume selection may not persist from one boot session to the next (i.e. it would need to be manually selected for each subsequent session). For this reason — and in general — it makes less sense to assign a volume from the Drive Dock as the Startup DIsk, than it does to select said volume via the Optional-boot screen, whenever it happens to be needed.
