Rating: 4/5 Super value for the money July 18, 2019 This unit was a drop-in replacement for a dead optical drive in my friend's 2007 iMac 7,1. Seems to be 100% compatible with the original unit, and now he can read and write video and audio again. My only complaint, and the reason I knocked off one star, is that the upgrade wizard for the web site doesn't list ANY optical drive as being available for this iMac; it was just sheer luck that while trolling through the available optical drives I noticed that this one had text about compatibility with 2006-2008 iMacs.

Rating: 5/5 Had My Doubts September 8, 2017 I have an 08 iMac and the optical drive died. The installation videos for the G5 went up to 07 then picked up at 09. Called OWC and was told to follow the 09 installation video. Took 2 attempts but that was my fault because I didn't have drive in property. DVD goes in a lot further before catching and being taken in by the drive. Over all It's in and works well.

Rating: 5/5 Terrific replacement for my 2006 iMac Optical Drive October 7, 2016 My dear workhorse, the 2006 20" iMac, lost the optical drive on the mac side, but the bootcamp Windows side still would read/write. I know the iMac has long since been replaced by newer models, but there are still older programs I need to run that this baby supports, and I NEEDED that optical drive. Bought this one here at MacSales, followed very good instructions I saved off iFixit to disassemble my iMac (this is the 3rd time I've needed to do this to replace components, always successfully), and the drive is working like a dream! Cost was exceptional, shipping prompt and so far the quality is great! I am one happy camper, and so is the iMac!! It has not been relegated to e-waste! Thanks!!
