Jaguar 10.2 & XPF 2.2b15 |

Ryan, thanks for updating XPF so promptly for 10.2 compatibility. I can confirm that my built-in ethernet (MACE) is now properly recognised by the system & that the installation now completes the first reboot successfully without having to reinstall XPF extensions from OS 9. On my machine the only remaining issue is the rather spindly mouse pointer. It seems to be lacking every other row of pixels and is a pale grey colour rather than black. I expect it is something to do with the new Quartz display drivers & not something that XPF can have much influence over. Interestingly it only affects the basic mouse pointer. Once you move to a region of the screen where the pointer becomes a spinning colour ball or an I-bar it's fine. I'm using the built-in graphics on an 8600/200. I also noticed during boot that the spinning wheel at the bottom of the screen which is new in 10.2 comes out in 1-bit greyscale (i.e. black & white) so it looks more like a swarm of demented bees. Probably again due to the unsupported graphics processor. Just FYI I'm using 6C115 which is the GM version & presumably what will be shipped on 24th Aug. |

rvamerongen, There are two I know of: OSXPM 1.0.2.5_1 - "Install, delete, create packages for OS X" and: Pacifist 1.0 - This is kind of like a "tomeviewer" but for OSX instead of OS9. I'm not necessarily recommending either one, but they may do what you want, as far as installing individual packages or parts. They're both in Version Tracker. --James |

Hmm. I hadn't tested Jaguar Server yet. I'll give it a try and see how it goes. |

Hi and yes it works for me with the latest jaguar version. But unfortinaly it doesnt work with the latest jaguar server. It says there are errors just after choosing the harddrive. with a normal dialog and show a restart button. What i would like to try is install jaguar X and do a instal with the separated packages. Some one have some suggestions? I forgot the name of a tool who let you install parts of the package! rene |

RE: Jaguar 10.2 - Classic 9.2.2 OK |

After your comment about Classic not working I tried it out & can report that OS 9.2.2 works fine for me in Classic under 10.2 both on an internal SCSI disk & an external FireWire. I also tried 9.1 & although this started up it was extremely unstable & I had to force quit it in the end. For people having problems & who haven't got a version of 9.2.2 installed I'd suggest using the software provided by www.os9forever.com to allow you to upgrade your classic OS. Probably the best approach is to make a copy of your 9.1 folder & then use the os9forever software to update that to 9.2.2. Even if that isn't entirely successful as a standalone OS 9 system (it works great on my machine) it could serve as a classic system for use under 10.2 BTW I'm posting this from Explorer 5.1.5 running under classic. |

Mine tends to work well, overall, but I do have a recurring problem, where if I'm playing something, say in iTunes 3, and start doing a number of other things, sometimes the sound stutters and then starts again. However, sometimes, after the stutter, it does not start again, sound is gone totally. I have to restart to get it back. I don't know if this is a Jaguar problem or an XPF problem. Does anyone know if there is a way to restart the "sound server,", similar to the way you can restart it in a Linux setup, or is a total restart the only way? Thanks, JG |

Hi I have loaded 10.2 (6C115) on my 7300 with Sonnet G4/400/1MB upgrade. I also have a Realtek 10/100 NIC (drivers 1.11) and connecting to external Panasonic 7502 CDR - with no issues esp with Roxio Titanium 5.1.3 (so far!) Im using the Powerlogix Cache Control s/w and the speed seem similar to 10.1 so far (havent used it much yet) I also have the same issues with the mouse pointer as well and Classic with 9.1. Will try 9.2x later once (and if) I get the beta for OS9 Helper Regards Richard Melbourne, Australia |

Jaguar and Classic |

The other problem I have just noticed is that Classic is not working for me in Jaguar. The system.log indicates that the Blue Box has crashed. It occurs very early in the process of loading Classic--seemingly before any extensions have loaded, though I'm not absolutely sure of that. I have tried both Mac OS 9.1 and 9.2 (but I have not tried a totally clean install of either, which is the logical next step). If anyone has Classic working under Jaguar on an unsupported machine, I'd be interested to hear about it. |

RE: Jaguar 10.2 and "pointer" cursor |

I have now seen the cursor problem. The problem shows up when I am using onboard video, but not when using a video card. And, as you say, it seems to affect the little "pointer" only, not the other cursors. I will experiment a bit and see if I can figure out what is going on. |

Thanks. I haven't seen the cursor problem myself yet, but several users have reported it. I had though it might be related to a specific video card, but it sounds like that is not the case. Actually, perhaps it is related to onboard video--I will check into that. The reason that the new spinning wheel is problematic is that Apple has not pushed out their latest BootX sources yet. Once they do, I should be able to fix that. (But it appears to be just cosmetic). |
