System: PTP200,Sonnet G4 450,196 MB RAM,Yamaha 2100sz internal SCSI CDRW, XPostFacto 2.2b14. While installing OS10.1 XPostFacto attempts to read the CD and I see "Still waiting for root device" over and over again. I know from other posts that this means that XPostFacto is having problems with the CD drive. Has anyone had any success installing with the 2100sz drive? I'm trying to install to the original IBM 2GB hardrive(SCSI ID=0) that I reformatted, installing Apple's driver and OS 9.1. I'm running OS9.1 on a 4GB(SCSI ID=1). The CD-RW is ID=3. I also using a USB keyboard and mouse attached to a 2 port Keyspan card. I tried a Toshiba 4X SCSI drive that has failed with the same error. Finally, if those drives won't work, has anyone had success booting from an IDE CD-ROM. I could borrow a Mitsumi 32X drive. If so, which IDE card is recommended? |

Success!!! After trying many different ideas, I got it to install by simply switching all of my SCSI devices to the external bus. After it booted I just switched them back. |

I think what you really need to do is get an Apple CD-ROM from an Apple system. OSX doesn't like to be installed from 3rd-party optical drives. |
