I have proglem configuring L2 cache after adding two 128 RAM from 8004memory. Although the vendor claims that the RAMs are compatible with G3/G4 upgrade card, and indeed I can boot to X without any problem. However configuring L2 cache from OS9 or OSX were not successful; system crashes after probing L2 cache in both cases. Has anyone experienced similar system crashes? Are those memory from 8004memory defective? |

In addition to the problem of installing Powrlogix's cache control X for OSX, I also encounter similar difficulty in installing their G3/B4 cache profile 1.5 for OS 9; as soon as I turn the backside cache status "on" computer crashes. What is the workaround in OS9? |

Thank you for your comments. One thing I don't quite understand is I have garden variety of RAMs, 16, 32, 128 MB RAM from different vendors installed in my PM9500 and they don't have any problem with G4 upgrade card, Xpostfacto and Powerlogix. Only the 128 MB RAM seems to have problem. |

When I first tried PowerLogix's Cache Control X 1.2, it caused the same kinds of problem you've described. I found that I was able to correct it via a tip on this board by first going in as root and changing some of the permissions of the files before installation. Files that required changes are in the Cache Control X 1.2.app application folder: Contents/Info*, Contents/pbdevel*, Contents/Resources/plchip*, Contents/Resources/English.lproj/*. Change these guys so their permissions are 644. Then chown their uid and gid to root:wheel. Install the software. Launch Cache Control X 1.2.app. Set the cache appropriately. Reboot to ensure things work. |

I don't know whether your trouble is memory-related or not, but I do know that 8004memory does sell very cheap (low quality) memory. a G4 card will be especially finicky about memory. |
