memory requirements for 7500 G3/400 and xpf /OSX |

Hi, First memory-related question: What kind of RAM do I need? I have read through the threads (whew) and am still not sure what ram i must use in a 7500 with powerlogix G3/400. My major anxieties are edo vs. non-edo and 2K vs 4K refresh. there are some 128M edo 4K refresh opportunities at a very attractive price, but the last thing i need to do is throw money away on memory that won't work in the system that i am trying to get up and running. Second memory-related question: How can I determine the characteristics of the RAM that I have and if they will work with xpf/OSX? I saw the chipmunk site reference but none of my current memory seems to have the markings/numbers described there. So, i may have memory that will work but i can't tell by looking at it. If i am going to try swapping memory in and out to find goodies and baddies, is there a minimum amount of memory that i need to try to install and run OSX with xpostfacto? I have one 128 mb and four 32 mb boards. Thanks. Bob |

it seems that tempest's experience is at variance from some of what i have read can anyone else share their experience with memory requirements for running OSX/expostfacto on a 7500 with a prologix G3/400 accelerator card or with a G3 upgrade in general? thanks. |

Well, my 8500 has a PowerLogix G3 at 466MHz and I have 4K non-EDO DIMMs. It's currently running 10.2. |

hi tempest, thanks for your comments but... from reading threads on this forum, i got the impression that although the 7500 normally does not require edo DIMMS, there is a need for a much more precisely manufactured DIMM (edo) for use with a processor upgrade card running expostfacto-facilitated OSX. There also seems to be some requirement for 2K refresh vs. 4K refreshed and the requirements for either/both might be dependent on whether the upgrade is to G3 or G4 and maybe even the manufacturer. So, I am trying to: 1. find out what type of memory (edo/non-edo, 2k/4k, etc) i need to get a 7500 with a powerlogix G3/400 accelerator up and running with expostfacto and OSX. 2. try to figure out if the memory that i currently have meets the requirements to run OSX on the above described machine 3. if necessary, go buy the "right kind" of DIMMS, once I know what the "right kind" are. Thanks. Bob |

My understanding is the classic PCI PowerMacs require non-EDO DIMMs. You can go to OWC or Crucial and they have configurators that will tell you what type of memory your model requires. |
