I have been trying to install 10.2 Server to my 8500 with a NewerG4/400 to no avail.... here is the problem I tried to install to a non-apple disk that was formatted by the apple tool it has an 4G,2G,2G partition and I try to install to the 4G. the installer goes ok and at somepoint comes to a screen that says to reboot by pressing the power key ... no restart button...rebooting causes it to try to boot off of cd then if i use xpost to try to boot back to this partition a kernel panic happens .. the same thing happens with the original 2G apple drive .... prior to this I also tried to install over the old 10.1 server and it fails the install and makes you reboot ... but didnt do any damage ... to bad i reformatted this drive i may need to go back and reinstall 10.1 I took the risk and it bit me ... appledumplings.com is down till i can figure it out sorry if i miss or add a 0 below :) no Debugger Configured MSR=00001030 0x0008593c 0x00085f00 0x00028b8c 0x002314a8 0x00213a38 0x00213834 0x00214184 0x002147e0 0x00204c60 0x00204c24 proceeding back Exception state (sv=0x02011500) PC=0x00000000 MSR=0x0000d030 DAR=0x00000000 DSISR=0x00000000 LR=0x00000000 RI=0x00000000 XCP=0x00000000 (unknown) Kernel version 6.0 root:xnu/xnu-344 panic:we are hanging here hope i dont get that sql error again |

let me rephrase that the kernel panic was due to the installer not finishing .... but offline we determined that ... the installer was failing because of the ram. |

It was the ram .... i was just pig headed and didnt want to have to disassemble my machine besides i had already installed 10.2 so i didnt think it could be the ram ... anyway ....good news ... server runs with 64M actually serves pretty good ...although if you have gui up apps are slow to respond :) ... but in headless(>console)mode it worked fine ..... memory is now back in though and server is doing great. Thanks Ryan should have listened earlier |

I have seen this happen (panic during install) with a media error on the install CD. Or (ahem) perhaps a bad copy of the install CD (carracho?). |

I've had a chance to try it now, and it works for me. Unfortunately, that doesn't help you much. I decoded the backtrace you posted. What it means is that BootX did not load the ApplePowerSurgePE driver. You could try the "Reinstall Extensions" and "Reinstall BootX" options in XPostFacto to see if that helps. From your description of what happened, it sounds like computer panicked part way through the install. When that happens, it is sometimes a problem with RAM. Though I would not expect that problem to show up in 10.2 if it did not show up in 10.1. Also, you could try booting in verbose mode, to see whether any interesting error messages get printed before the panic. (The messages about PatchedSCSIDeviceType05 and PatchedIOSCSIDrive are normal, assuming you get that far). |

I was able to get 10.2 client installed .... but I am without the server features I need. Is it possible that there is something needed that the client installs that the server doesnt? ... one thing to note is that there is no mach.sym mach is linked to mach_kernel on the server install |
